    Vinegar tasting wine now ok!!??

Hi everyone, Around a month or so ago I used a strawberry wine making kit for the first time and it was during the last of the humid weather we had here in the UK. This seemed to fast track fermentation and at the bottling stage is tasted very high in vinegar. I have left it at room temp...

Really upset this morning kegs not fit for purpose

Yeah I was attempting to carbonate like I have said in replies to others I had no idea the kegs only came with a dust cap. Lessons learnt I guess.

Really upset this morning kegs not fit for purpose

I can see accessories for them now on the website but when I looked at the picture I assumed the cap would be sufficient. As a novice it doesn't occur to mind that extra accessories could be needed!

Really upset this morning kegs not fit for purpose

Maybe it is because I am a novice but I bought a renewable keg and assumed that I could put ginger beer in it. It's not the worst thing I have ever done!!

Really upset this morning kegs not fit for purpose

I decided to sieve the beer from one keg yo a sterilised fermenter with tap to see if any flies etc in there. We think we found one fly in the one keg so decided not to risk it. Quite hard to see tiny flies in a sieve so I think muslin might be a better option. I'll try the beer when I...

Ginger Beer to Whisky is it possible?

Thanks 😊 I am new to brewing in general so not sure if I am quite ready for spirits yet. Think i might try and look at my brew and get it into another clean container. If it is fruit fly ridden I think I will chuck away.

Ginger Beer to Whisky is it possible?

Hi everyone, I posted in another thread today that the ginger beer I made is potentally infected as the lids of the kegs popped off late last night exposing to open air and possibly fruit flies. As you can imagine I am pretty gutted especially as I am new to brewing and want to enjoy my...

Really upset this morning kegs not fit for purpose

Hi everyone, Over the last week or so I have lovingly spent time making a home brew ginger beer using a kit and yesterday was kegging day. I used some new mini kegs and I did think the lids to them looked a little flimsy but hey as a first time what was I to know. I came down this morning...

    First wine brew advice needed

Thanks I normally take a starting gravity but with this one I didn’t unfortunately so I cannot comment on that. I have taken a sample and mixed it with soda water so I think with this batch I’ll make a long pitcher style drink and try better next time. I am still new to this so everything is...

    First wine brew advice needed

Thanks so much and I can now see that the recipe I used quoted too much sugar which means I’ll have to use as a desert wine. Great website.

Citrus type mead fermented super quick - Is this normal?

Hi everyone! I have recently been fermenting a citrus type of mead with tangerines and honey that on the first rack this week has almost reached the bottling stage. Can mead with fruit in particular citrus ferment super quick like this or could something have gone wrong? Temperature has been...

    First wine brew advice needed

Hi everyone! I am relatively new to home brewing and I recently used a fruit teabag recipe to make a sweet fruit wine as I figured if I start cheaply if I mess it up then it is not a huge deal. Anyway I followed the recipe to the T which included 1.5kg of sugar, fruit teabags and wine yeast...

    First brew woes

Thanks for your help. I cannot remember the make of the kit all I know it was a dark ale from Wilkinsons. It is my very first brew so I guess it is not bad for a first attempt. Thanks :)

    First brew woes

Hi everyone, I am new to brewing and I am currently fermenting a dark ale that has an equal amount of malt to sugar as per the instructions. I have taken hydrometer tests everyday as per the instructions and now things have slowed right down. I seem to be stuck now just before the bottling...
