    When to refrigerate starter?

Right, but in the case of someone like myself who does wish to decant, and who is making a starter several days ahead of time, what's the best way to preserve the yeast? Perhaps it doesn't matter whether you refrigerate it or not? -R

    When to refrigerate starter?

Well, I created my starter on Sunday with plans to brew on the following Saturday. It'll be my first all-grain and I don't want to blow it! -R

    When to refrigerate starter?

It was recommended that I create a yeast starter several days before brewing, then refrigerate it and let it settle and pour off most of the liquid before pitching. At what point in the process should I refrigerate? Right after it's done fermenting? The day before brewing? Will it keep for...

    Just started a yeast starter

When I've done starters I've been leaving them at room temp to settle out for a few days before pitching. Is this a bad thing? Is the reason for refrigerating the starter to preserve it or settle out the yeast faster? (I'm trying to track down the cause of some bad batches) -R

    Bottle Bomb plus clove off-taste

So there's no need to cool the sugar solution before mixing it with the beer? And thanks for the sanitation tips. I guess I need to find a way to clean my siphoning and blowoff tubes. Also, I usually just rinse the bottles after use, then re-rinse and sanitize them all in the dishwasher...

    Bottle Bomb plus clove off-taste

I always use bottled spring water, either Arrowhead or the like, which I assume is not chlorinated. However, I did use tap water for the 32 oz starter. I let it settle for a couple days then poured off half the liquid before I pitched--could that little bit cause a problem? Thanks, R

    Bottle Bomb plus clove off-taste

So my wife called me at work today to tell me that a (warm) 22 oz bottle of Beach Party Blonde Ale had exploded on the kitchen counter. I had had problems with this batch to begin with. First it took forever to carbonate, a full 3 weeks. Then it revealed a very clove-like off taste that, to...

    Sierra Nevada Pale Ale "Hoppiness"

So this thread has prompted me to go to the fridge and open a nice cold SNPA....mmmm......now what was the question? -R btw, for SoCal drinkers, you know Father's Office has a new outlet in Culver City, just on the end of the Helms Bakery off Venice Blvd. Same great selections, same...

Question about storing in the bottle

Yeah, my first batch I cracked after 10 days in the bottle and was very disappointed. Two weeks later it was wonderful. I guess what I'm asking is whether the mellowing/conditioning will continue to improve the beer after it's in the fridge, or if I should leave the bulk of it stored in a...

Question about storing in the bottle

I hear a lot of people advising to keep your beer in the bottle for 5 weeks or so before drinking. Does this mean storing it at cool room temperature or in the fridge? Thanks, -R

    Cheers from Santa Monica

Hi all, New to this forum and to brewing. After tasting my friends' home brew for years I finally took the plunge. Culver City Brewing helped me out with a 2 carboy setup and some recipes, and I just opened my first batch, an amber ale that came out much better than I thought it would...

    Over carbonated gassy beer

First post here. Couldn't find anything using search, so sorry if this is redundant. First of all, thanks to whoever recommend patience in opening that first batch of home brew. I opened one on Thanksgiving after 10 days in the bottle and was disappointed with the cloudy look, the sour taste...
