    Jumping back into the pool

Hi all - Jumping back in after taking about 5 years off after losing my brew partner. Started back last weekend with EdWort's Apfelwein and a Random Porter. Looking forward to come back and up my game while builiding up my trading supplies for the coronapocalypse ;) Cheers!

Help! Can't get gas flowing on new BG-14

The title kinda says it all. I got a BG-14 last Christmas, but because life got in the way, haven't had a chance to try it out until now. I followed the instructions to assemble it and connected it to a working tank. And, yes I am sure the tank works and is filled. I have 2 tanks, and...

Where to go : Appleton, Oshkosh, Ripon WI

I'll be in the great white north for a few days after Easter and was wondering if there were any places I needed to stop by to enjoy while I am in the neighborhood. I will have 2 evenings to enjoy the region, so if there are a couple of options I would appreciate the info. Enjoy!

    Finally joined the club...

Well, it finally happened.... First off, I brewed a Kolsch on Friday and emptied my gas tank with 8 minutes left on the boil. No big deal because it was a 90 minute boil, so I'm not worried. Then I realized that I forgot to drop my IC in during the boil, so I ended up letting it set...

Anybody brewing for Natl Homebrew Day next week?

Just checking...I don't think Titgemeier's or River Raisin has anything going on then. Enjoy!

    Zune HD or iPod Touch

So I am looking to get some type of mp3 player for my son this Christmas. He just turned 13 and thinks I am the meanest dad in the world because I won't let him get a cellphone (woohoo me!!!:ban:) I am thinking that I want to get either the Zune or the Touch, so he can listen to music, watch...

Does it get any better ?

Polished off 1/2 of a bottle of Chianti with homemade pizza for dinner celebrating the youngest's birthday and then dove into 3 hombrewd O'fests and drilled 5 taps on my new keezer.... I love this place :tank:

    Lager racking question

I laid down a Oktoberfest/Marzen a couple of weeks ago, and I am working on planning out the rest of my fermentation schedule. It will be in Primary for 20 days at 50F, then I am planning to let it float up to 65F for a 3 day D-rest. After the rest, I will be racking it into secondary to...

    Starter water

Hi all... I just got a sweet stirplate score from work (pix later) and want to try my first stirplate starter. That being said, can I use distilled water to make my starter? I am not looking for any minerals to help a mash and I want to make sure that the RA and pH in my water don't add...

    AL kettle valve question

Metallurgy question for the masses... Can I install a SS ball valve in an aluminum kettle, and not have to worry about galvanic reaction causing corrosion? I'd like to drill my 10 gal brew kettle and install a weldless valve, but I don't want to buy myself problems down the road. Thanks.

How dark for no water amendment

As I was brewing Orfy's Mild today, I wondered what is the minimum color ( assume a quantitative measurement of Lovibond) of beer I can brew without messing with the ph of my water. The local PWS has good water that I drink all the time, but the big issue to me is the 9.5 ph (straight off the...

    Acid Blend in Beersmith

Anyone have any information or already entered LD Carlson's Acid Blend in Beersmith? My local water supply comes out of the tap at a PH of 9.5 and I believe that it has been killing my efficiencies so I want to try adding Acid Blend as well. I am planning on adding 1 tsp of 5.2 stabilizer...

    Beer line/manifold question

I picked up a 3-way manifold today, but didn't notice until I got home that the barbs on the manifold are probably 1/4" od and the red gas line that I have is 3/8" id. Am I going to be able to clam down tight enough with my Oetiker clams on the hose to get a good seal on the barb, or should I...

    Weird one...

Let me preface this by saying I hate throwing any out that might even be remotely useful.... So our city recently changed over to automated garbage collection trucks. As part of the system, they provided every house in the city with 2 new containers. So this leaves me with 2 55-gallon...

The good and the bad of the day

After much errand running with SWMBO on my vacation day, I finally got my chance to brew. I made Orfy's Boddington clone, so hopefully it will be yummo (sorry for the Rachel Ray there) Got my bag o' grains out from the LHBS and just for fun, thought I would run them through my shiny new BC...

    What to do with $100?

Ok, so I got a $100 gift card for a beerthday present, and I am looking for some ideas about what to buy with it. I am a extract/AG brewer. I have a MLT, 40 qt. boil kettle, keggle, burner, 4 fermenting buckets, Better Bottle, carboy, and just got my beginning keg equipment from...

    Great trip to Chico, CA!!!

So I was in Chico last week and overall life was good (despite the 3 hour time difference). I took the Sierra Nevada tour. It was really cool to see the grinders, kettles, and fermenters, but I was kind of bummed that we didn't get to see the bottling line. They had to move the lines into a...
