What came in the mail for you today?

Against all odds this RO arrived recently! I'd given up on it, and it was getting close to the 4 month charge-back cut off. I guess Cheap, Fast, Quality: pick 2 holds true. It's good enough. 4 filters and takes a morning to fill 10G and produces about 16G waste at my tap supply pressure, which...

    Homebrewing Nightmare

Been there. Its just a different drinking experience. Looks like plenty of long straws available...

What came in the mail for you today?

Nothing. And it's 10 weeks since I ordered an RO system from a very legit looking site. On googling 'Tru Water Scam' there are dozens suckers like me still waiting and the odd one who suspiciously gives a great review. Maybe it'll arrive despite the complete deficit of customer service...

    Grainfather G30 not heating

Yep, my experience with them as well. They can trouble shoot acurately if you give enough symptoms and respond to emails pretty fast. Almost like they know what its like having bags of fresh hops yeast and malt, but empty kegs or bottles!

    Grainfather Conical Fermenter Owners Thread

A bit of news: I received an email udate from GF this week that they've completed a tilt-bridge-wifi conical controller. There was a bit of interest in it on the GF suggestions section on their site but it's such an obvious next step its frustrating it wasn't already on board on board last...

    Bucket v.s. conical v.s. unitank

Another vote for a fermzilla. It was by far the best Bang-for-buck beer improvement for me. A plastic conical unitank is a cheap option for trying pressure fermenting /spunding / yeast collection / trub dumps / O2 exclusion and decent options for temp control, closed transfers, oxidation free...

    Grainfather Conical Fermenter Owners Thread

Is that a kegerator or freezer next door? Can you run lines through that to a small radiator or glycol container etc if it's just for a single fermenter? Getting an additional jacket for your fermenter may help your cause too...

Been doing it all wrong I guess

Pure genius! Make beer. Take the flavor out. Sell the beer. Then sell the flavor that makes it drinkable separately! Giant tanks of flavor have been sitting for years just waiting for this master-move.

    Buying Beer As A Homebrewer

I get a dozen random craft beers arrive in a box once every other month. The first year it was a gift subscription from my wife - who actually set the Xmas-present-bar close to the moon that year. My mates wives hate her for it! Legendary. But - I've continued it as it such a great surprise that...

Can I reuse a beer that didnt turn out, for my mash water

Brew a beer you're familiar with, use it in the mash and let us know how it turns out! A little Lord Farquaad ("Some of you may die, but that is a risk I'm willing to take") as you'll likely end up with twice the volume of 'cooking beer' (??) but it'd be both interesting and entertaining for the...

    Star San Melting Plastic?

Give it a rest already. Way to ruin a thread guys. And on topic, yup, has happened to me more than once. They loose their opaqueness and go hard again if you wash and hang them but I've not used one again. I changed to all Eva Barrier and duotights and haven't thought about it since!

    Fermzilla and dry hopping

Ooohh.. thanks 😬 Wouldn't want to make that mixup in wrong in the wrong company. The CO2 bong branch could make for a painful extraction.

    Dry hopper

There's very robust plastic 2 and 1.5 inch tri-clamp versions for about $12 US - google hop-bong. Hard to beat that, pressure rated. Its worth a try at that price if you already have the clamps / BV! Clever simple, cheap solutions - theres a demo on the end of the New Fermzilla with Tri-Clamps...

    Fermzilla and dry hopping

Just FYI - kegLAND (edit, and cringe...) now makes a hop-bong that fits on a 2inch TC on a new lid configuration for the fermzilla. Its a simple and inexpensive solution like all their gear. Solves the above issues. Skip to the 20 minute mark. Vid here: Fermzilla Tri-Conical

    Grain Mill question...

This. Condition your grains (add water). There are plenty of threads explaining how and why you should do this. One benefit is the softened husk is gripped by the rollers better; it solves the reluctant grain frustration.

Is anyone using fermentation CO2 to purge their kegs?

I put a T-join in before the spunding valve and a couple of duofit 1/0 valves, but you could as easily use the CO2 on exit from the valve. I hate wasting anything and watching 25 volumes of free CO2 bubbling away peeved my scottish ancestors everytime I go to the garage for a sample. Which is...

    Fermzilla Questions

Pushing the temp twister down will sacrifice a few handles of beer - its quite nice when the dip tube draws right down near the butterfly valve...

1.144: is this just a bad idea?

I have one tilt. I wave my android at it once a day or when ever I'm near the garage in the first day or 2 of fermentation. That's plenty of data to get a curve which is all I ever expect of it - just the slope of the trend. I take an OG and SG with a floating hydrometer and forget worrying...

Need Help Switching to EVA Barrier and DuoTight Fittings

I recently bought half a dozen of these. I wish they'd been available - and that I wasn't so hung-up on getting 'quality stainless' everything when I bought into brewing. They're cheap, brilliantly simple and work. No leaks, consistently easy to get on and off keg posts and a 1 minute install...
