If your iPad and iPhone are linked to the same Apple ID, then you only need to buy it once. But if your iPhone was your personal iPhone, and your iPad was from work, then that probably means you'd have to buy it separately. Apple controls that part of it, in fact we don't even get records of who...

If you buy the iPhone app you can also run it on other apple devices that are hooked up to your AppleID, including your iPad. The website works well on the iPad in Safari.

Hi, Glad you like the site! In terms of yeast attenuation, we use what the manufacturers list. Attenuation comes down to many factors, including wort profile, gravity, mash temp, fermentation temp, yeast pitch rate, etc, etc... If we list a number other that what the manufacturer provides, no...

OG is pretty far off, but all the numbers are right.

    I believe he hit 1.060 with 6 gallons. 1.052 with 7.5 gallons.

OG is pretty far off, but all the numbers are right.

This may also be part of it - the brew was not boiled down as much, and there was extra trub losses. For all grain batches that have lots of kettle dead space and hops absorption batch size mode 'kettle' is much more appropriate.

OG is pretty far off, but all the numbers are right.

This is Larry from Brewer's Friend. Came up with the following: A) Gravity readings I have a cheap refractometer off Amazon, and it reads all over the place. I need to take about 8 samples then average them to get anywhere near what my hydrometer tells me, and still it can be off...

This week's release of BF will add the pre-boil gravity estimate to the recipe view and print screen, plus the brew session page. This was brought up previously in our feature request forum. We happened to be working on it this release so your timing is perfect. It should go live in the next...

Of all four fields in question, the only one it does not show on the printout is the pre-boil gravity. That is only available in the editor mode under More... We could look into exposing the pre-boil gravity on the printout. If interested, let me know and I'll add it in our feature request...

Thanks for the kind words! Our refractometer calculator is based on Sean Terril's equations, which we found to be the most accurate and well researched. Probably, nb is using a more basic equation. Check this out for more info: http://seanterrill.com/2011/04/07/refractometer-fg-results/

    Software available

I PM'd Orfy about getting added several months ago, but I can see why he might have ignored my shameless plug. The list was started back in 2007 and is out of date by now. It needs to be spruced up or a new thread started IMHO. Thank you for the mention!

Est. Mash, Brewhouse, and Total Efficiency

At Brewer's Friend we have defined 4 types of efficiency. By having 4 types, it helps zero in on where the problem is. Throwing out the typical mash temp and pH adjustment 'advice', only addresses conversion efficiency. Something as simple as leaving behind 2 quarts in the kettle impacts brew...

Do you squeeze out your hops? http://www.brewersfriend.com/2013/05/10/hops-squeezing-and-hops-absorption-more-bitterness-please/ This made a huge difference for me!

    Reducing IPA FG

Hi, This is Larry from Brewer's Friend. Our recipe editor allows a simple way of controlling FG. Under the yeast section check the 'custom attenuation' box. Then enter your expected attenuation. Hope this helps and happy brewing!

Hi Tuckerl, This is Larry from Brewer's Friend. Our next release of the iPhone app will handle brew session and brew log sync, and it is currently in the app store awaiting review. It will be out any day now. The iPhone app does run at 2x on the iPad and is a good solution if you don't have...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

He is getting his numbers from peer reviewed scientific research: Van Den Berg, S., & Van Landschoot, A. (2003). Practical use of dried yeasts in the brewing industry. CEREVISIA, 28(3), 25-30 (Table 1). Yes, 1/3 of a pack would get you beer, and most of the time it might be okay, but it...
