    ebay aquarium temp controller build

Just thought I'd post a pic of my completed build. The stock thermocouple unfortunately wasn't the same type that the controller was expecting so I used the one supplied with the controller. I decided to build a box out of some scrap acrylic because I wanted to minimize the cost of the build...

    First GF brew

There is a store in Brampton (North of Toronto) that sells 60 lb pails of sorghum ME for $220. Their markup is ridiculous but I think they have a monopoly in the area and there probably aren't a lot of people looking for it. Their website is...

Where abouts do you live? I've been brewing with sorghum for 3 years but my supplier keeps changing.

The thermocouple is a two-wire type. I cut it (with the power off of course) which resulted in an error on the display and a lovely high-pitched alarm. Any idea what size resistor I should be looking for?

I agree that these would probably work if I can get to the thermocouple. I'm not sure what the stock thermocouple looks like as I would have to deconstruct my kegerator in order to get at it which is why I haven't asked about it. At that point, I'd still have to wire up the aquarium controller...

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

I found the post by shackled on page 93 of this thread, is that the one you are referring to? Looks like he is doing the same thing. I could probably hook up a lamp inside without any trouble, one came with the fridge, probably a better solution than a space heater (which I would have used...

Thanks cwi. I keep the kegerator in the garage but it doesn't drop below freezing in the winter which is why I didn't think I needed the heating. Maybe I'll wire it to an outlet so I can plug in a small space heater just in case it gets really cold. I wouldn't say I'm hell-bent on...

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

I am in Canada so it isn't really warm enough to use that strategy I don't think... It has snowed about 8 inches in the last 24 hours. What would be involved in hard-wiring the compressor? I figure that swapping the stock controller out for the aquarium controller wouldn't be too hard as...

Sorry, I guess a better description of the problem would have been useful. I thought replacing the controller would be the solution since I couldn't get anything else to work. The fridge is a 5.8 cf mini-fridge which I have converted into a kegerator by adding a tower to the top. It is a real...

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. I think the fridge I bought was not a good choice for a kegerator. The minimum temperature I can set is 43F (ie. the coldest setting) and the controller allows the temperature to reach over 53F before signaling the compressor to turn on. I should have...

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

The fridge was made in 2005 (I would define this as 'newer') but perhaps I'm not explaining the problem adequately. The stock controller is garbage, which is why I want to replace it. I bought the ebay controller but I'm not 100% sure about the wiring, which was my original query. Does this...

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

Yeah, I guess I mis-typed thermostat when I really meant controller. The controller is simply not engaging the compressor until there is a very large temperature deviation from the set point. This is where the wiring question came in.

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

Yeah, the fridge is still intact. The problem is that the stock thermostat doesn't signal the compressor to turn on unless the temperature varies from the set point by 10 degrees F. I think your strategy will just turn the fridge on and not the compressor, giving me the same problem as before...

So like this? Seems to make more sense, I was just getting confused by what some of the other people were doing. If I do nothing with the heating circuit, what will happen if the temp. drops below the set point? This might happen on a very cold winter day. Should I tap into the power...

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

Hey all, I'm trying to replace the stock thermostat in my kegerator with one of the ebay ones. I've attached a diagram of what I think I should be doing. Can someone let me know if this makes sense? I don't think I should require heating, do I need a jumper or something for those spots...

I would like to do the same thing as Cranium... Replace the stock thermostat in my kegerator (because it is terrible). I bought the 110V controller off of e-bay but I can't do the same thing as most of you in this forum because I want to signal the compressor to turn on, not the fridge itself...

    Gluten Free Brewing Observations

Hi, I used to brew from can (yeah, I know you're probably looking down on me right now) but I've stopped drinking beer since I am no longer able to tolerate gluten (a real pain). I have been looking into making my own gluten-free beer and realized that there aren't any GF canned wort kits out...
