Auber RTD probes off by 15-20 degrees F

I have a couple of RTD probes from Auber. One is perhaps 3 years old, other relatively new (a few months). They both agree with each other but are off by up to 20 degrees from where they should be. Sometimes. Sometimes they are dead on. and then they just jump around. During the last boil...

can i switch my nitro stout to co2 dispensing?

I have a stout that's been sitting on beer gas for about 2 months now. Unfortunately the beer gas ran out and the brew store is out as well. Any thoughts about switching it to a CO2 tank for dispensing at this point?

    30A switch vs contactor

Hi All, My understanding is that when building a power on switch for a large heating element (30A), a low voltage switch is used along with a 30A contactor. I was wondering if there are any drawbacks to using these: https://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=260...

Very noisy old kegerator, what is this noise??

I have an old kegerator I bought for a song on craigslist. I've not had it very long, but it's been rather noisy. It was also cooling very poorly, so I recharged it with coolant via a piercing valve today. The cooling performance is now excellent again, however the noise seems to have gotten...

Controller: small voltage drop under load

I am doing some testing on my controller. Noticed that the AC voltage drops by about 5V under load. Voltmeter reads 120V at the box input when the element is off, but drops to 115 when the element is switched on. Element on current reads 18.5A or so (This is a 2250 W element, 120V/20A...

DIY inside brewing vent/exhaust for moisture

Hi all, not sure where to post this but since most electric brewers brew inside, perhaps this is as good a place as any. I am trying to come up with some low cost and simple way of venting steam during boil. I use a 2200W element which gives me rather gentle boils and low evaporation, so...

    Irish stout stalled fermentation, suggestions?

For the first time I decided to try a pack of dry east for fermentation (safale 04). The OG was 1.043. it’s been 9 days and has been stuck at 1.017 for 4 days now. I am looking for 1.010. mash lasted a couple of hours and was rock steady at 152. it’s fermenting under controlled temperature...

    Belgian Tripel Fermenting time

I've read around the forum about people keeping their Belgian tripels in fermentor a month or more, sometime 2-3 months between primary and secondary I brewed a tripel a couple of weeks back, fermenting form 67-75 with WLP530. After 2 weeks OG is steady at 1.008. Is there any reason i should...

Temperature ramping during fermentation (Belgian yeast)

Hi all, I'm looking for some details on what is the best way to ramp up temperature during fermentation. Specifically, i brew Belgian style pale beers (blondes and Trippels), usually with WLP500 or 530. The general advice given is to pitch at low temperature and let it rise... say from 67 to...

Breaker switch started flipping on my last brew

I have a 120V/20A system i put together myself. It has worked well for probably 5 or 6 brews. Last brew, the breaker switch on my control box started tripping and shutting everything off. It would just do this at random, a few times during the ramp up to mash, a few times during the ramp up...

Fine crush, burnt batch... help troubleshoot

Hello all, I got myself a mill recently and crushed the grain myself on my last batch. My intention was to improve efficiency. I crushed at 0.025. Crush looked good but there was certainly more flour than ever before. I put some of the crushed grain dry in my bag, and i could see flour...

    Digital refractometer, measurement swings

Hi All, I used a digital refractometer for the first time while brewing last weekend. It's a Milwaukee NA871. I had issues with repeatable readings. Reading for a given sample varied across 1 Brix unit. My final sample read anywhere between 13.8 to 15.5. Most readings would start low and...

First brew (biab) with new mill... efficiency?

Hi All, Finally got myself a 3 roller grain mill and will be doing a brew (ebiab) with grain that i will crush myself for the first time. So i have no data to go on. I plan on crushing with a gap of 0.03 (credit card basically). I am looking for a ball park figure of what efficiency to put...

    Belgian yeast starter smells bad

Hi all, I made 1L starter out of 1 month old (manufacture date 3/5/2020) pack of Imperial Belgian triple double. I boiled the wort, sanitized everything, the usual dance... Starter went on a stir plate for about 24 hours. The starter was pretty active, lots of foam, lots of yeast at the...

High alkalinity water, should I chance it?

Just move to a new house that is on well water. I got a water test done (attached). Alkalinity appears to be through the roof. I was gearing to brew a Belgian saison. Is this water going to be bad news for the beer? Should I get some water from the store instead? Any simple additions I...

    120V Controller wiring diagram feedback

Hi All, I'm working on my first ebiab controller. This will be a 120V/20A setup with a 2200W element. I would be ever so grateful to get a second pair of eyes on my wiring diagram. I roughly based it on the Auber Cube and am using the same enclosure and most of the same parts. Any...

Designing a basic single element 120V/20A setup, question.

Greetings! I am working on putting together a basic EBIAB system with a 2200W element that would run off a 20A receptacle in the kitchen. I was wondering about the following. The controller I am looking to build would run the element, a couple of LEDs, a PID and a small pump (0.7A rating)...
