    Kombucha secondary fermentation fails

Are you botteling to flip tops? If you are, make sure your rubber seals are all mint. Ive just started into kombucha a few weeks ago. Typically I take 1 cup of my flavor (which has been gauva nectar or Raspberry Arizona iced Tea) add it to 750ml wine bottle, followed by 2 cups of kombucha...

    Quail Keeping

There has also been a big drop in the northern bobwhite quail, which used to be very common in my area and is now on its way to endangerment. :/ Very happy to see this has sparked some conversation. Id love all the info you guys are willing to share on rearing quail and ways to enjoy their meat...

    Quail Keeping

Happy to report I come from a "village". So we have our 2 gas stations, local grocer, a few local restaurants, etc. And the motto here is "shop local, buy local". Im not sure if I'd need some sort of licencing for selling thw quail commercially. I know in Canada home run businesses can make...

    Quail Keeping

Did you have any good recipes for quail? Or better yet, a good recipe that pairs well with beer or wine? [emoji3]

    Quail Keeping

Was kind of just interested in it for myself and the family, (My father is really excited for the quail meat) but i can see locally theres quite the market for them. Mostly eggs/fertile eggs and young laying quail for the new season, but at the hatch rate, and cheap cost of the upkeep, doesn't...

    Quail Keeping

Just picked up a flock of breeders, as season is coming up. Does anyone else in the community farm quail for their eggs/meat? I have 6 layers and rooster. They were initially a mating flock for selling chicks. Theyre just going on a year now soon, so previous owner is getting a younger flock...

Why are homebrew people SO cheap??

The OP is right. Im 99% sure that all the brewers putting more money into the hobbie than us are, -that figure of money spent- × more satisfied and happy during the whole process. Ive created a formula for this (A bunch of money you spent × total finished brew volume) ABMYS×TB=how much...

Return To Homebrewing: Homebrewing with kids?

Congratulations on your family and your accomplishments together. My little one is almost 2 now, and I have never felt as though I've been a bad role model by allowing her to watch the process. As far as im concerned, shes getting a much clearer idea of what the beautiful art of olde style...

    2 Row Bulk...$48 shipped

Im not sure if prices would be comparable, but it may be worth checking out for some- Lately ive been researching the process of home mushroom cultivation. There are a lot of companies offering cleaning products and organic rye berry. It seems like a very similar hobbie to homebrewing. 1%...

    perfect shine?

First-I agree, there is little to no methanol in the head, its mostly taken care of in the pre boil. As i stated. Second- its poison. I would worry about it. I'm sure the OP started this thread because they're worried about it as well. It's basically alchemy, and if you want to yeild...

    perfect shine?

The proper way to tell if your shine has methanol in it is to make sure you do the boil correctly. Dumping everything before and after 195°-205°f (correct my figures if I'm wrong). You've probably heard of the old head, tails, and heart trick. The pre boil and up to temp (everything that...

    Festa Brew Cream Ale [emoji481]

Hey there! Thanks a lot for your reply. Thats a very good bit about temperature, as I thought I should aim for something like mid to high 60s - low 70s near the start. This brews been sitting at the higher end since start. So that's at least something good to know for my next batch. :)

    Festa Brew Cream Ale [emoji481]

Started my first batch of beer! Thought it would be nice to start out with a kit, and ease into the passion if home craft beer. Very pleased with how things are going so far with my kit. If you're not aware the Festa Brew kits come with 19L (I think) of brewers wort, ready to go. Just clean...

    Picking this up tomorrow. Thoughts?

I can tell that you and others obviously feel glass carboys hold no value, but unfortunately the seller does. (And so do i to be honest) Carboys, glass or PET, are about 10-20 used in my area. However youd be very lucky to find PET. I'm sure in 20-30 years ill have to switch to PET carboys...

    Picking this up tomorrow. Thoughts?

I wasn't in a big hurt for a wine filter, but the seller was pretty keen on not splitting things up. So i figured oh what the hell. But my biggest interest was yes, the 3 glass 6oz carboys, and the floor corker. The rest as extra isnt too bad for the price from where im living though.

    Picking this up tomorrow. Thoughts?

Hey there! Thanks for your review of the wine filter! It was actually my understanding that you usually dont even want to filter wine unless it absolutely necessary. My first batch has been sitting around a while now and its almost crystal clear. I figured a filter like this may be good for...

Just finished my first batch!!!...and I think I nailed it!

I think I've caught the fever as well. I have been very interested in those extracts for homebrewed beer. I'd really love a try at it. This post is definitely going to send me to the local hbs this week. Again, very nice turn out it looks like. Id be interested in seeing how your 'from...
