3D Printing for Custom Mash Gasket

I recently printed out a mold for a custom gasket for my mash tun (I was being anal about having the EXACT part I wanted to make it work). After some time spent in CAD and a few prototypes that needed refining, I was then able to mold the (almost) perfect, food-grade silicone gasket (rated up to...

    Alternative Keg Dispensing Options

CO2 is getting harder for me to get right now, and with the Brewers Association posing about a potential CO2 shortfall, I'm starting to think long and hard about alternative methods of dispensing a keg. And, rather than do this in isolation, I thought I'd post my current idea and see if anyone...

    Propogate bread yeast?

OK, if you want to maintain it as a non-sourdough? No. But! You can make a starter with just bread yeast and it will take a number of generations to become any good at souring. Just use a 100% hydration base (50% water, 50% flour by weight), mix in your yeast, and let that rise, loosely covered...

A Black Friday Carol or 'Twas the Week After Midwest Supply

Guess your weren't on the naughty list.

A Black Friday Carol or 'Twas the Week After Midwest Supply

It’s Christmas season. Snow has fallen, lights have been strung and twinkle festively, Starbucks is the butt of countless protests because they haven’t depicted the nativity scene directly on their disposable coffee cups. So, if you’ll all gather 'round, pour yourself a pint, and get cozy, I...

    DIY tap handles

Nice! Very much approve. The dice, in particular, are an awesome concept.

    DIY tap handles

Been turning tap handles on the lathe lately and there's been quite a learning curve. Anyone else enjoying this hobby? Any tips to share? Anyone need any tips? Pictured are one perpleheart, one redheart, and one oak with a copper ferrule.

Bar top epoxy recommendation for covering caps and coasters

There are specific bar top/counter resins. Home Depot even sells a couple. As long as you follow the pouring instructions, especially the mixing time, and find a couple decent tutorials specifically on using bottle caps, any of the clear versions of these will be fine. Oh, and check for...

    Lambic Starter

Do you know what does this? I'd used an ounce of debittered hops for three first attempt.

    Lambic Starter

I decided to brew my first lambic years ago. The blend I bought was well past expiration date and, while it did ferment, it didn't sour. Let it sit for years, checking every now and then to see what would happen. I'm at a point where I'd like to give it another try. Curious to know who's had...

    Weathering a Draft Tower

They are perlicks, but only about 5 years old.

    Weathering a Draft Tower

So I haven't done anything to the tower yet. Rodent, thanks for the suggestion. I did manage to finish the bar top. There tower is not terribly out of place on the finished piece, so I'll take my time to figure this out. Need to make the cabinet look a bit less fridge-y first anyway.

    Weathering a Draft Tower

I'm starting on a new project for my old Danby kegerator. I'm building a new bar top for it out of some weathered, reclaimed lumber, but I'm thinking the bright, chrome draft tower is going to look a little of on it. Anyone have any suggestions for how I might weather this thing? So far, I've...

    Beer and Loathing in MPLS

Got lucky on that front too: already have a 240v plug right where I need it. Obviously, there's still plenty to build, but...

    Beer and Loathing in MPLS

Can't speak for everyone, but for me it's a lot more than ventilation and automation. With my own background and with the space I have, electric just makes more sense and requires relatively little modification to my space, while gas would involve tearing a lot of my basement apart and probably...

    Beer and Loathing in MPLS

Been a brewer for a bit over a decade. Think I started in 2008? Usual story: started extract, moved to all grain. I currently use a fairly standard pot and cooler system with an outdoor burner, but I'm trying to move to an all-electric system in order to bring it inside (it's MN, YOU brew...
