    Reconstituting FCAJ

I'm thinking of switching from bottled juice to concentrate. I did a bit of searching and the consensus seems to be that tap water is fine for reconstituting frozen apple juice concentrate. Is that correct? I've read very little about water conditioning for beer. Are there any...

How many gallons of Cider in 2020

Just writing this to update the running total, that convention had been overlooked in a few posts. 126 (cillathomasm and earlier) + 3 (GeneDaniels1963) + 9 (Nick Z) + 1 (teddyearp) + 10 (theinterneti) + 3 (Tancred the Brewer) = 152 is the current running total. I leave it up to others to...

First brew, think i cucked it up already. Help and advice appreciated

It will bubble furiously for a few days, then calm down but continue to bubble for a week, up to a month or so. It can continue bubbling after all sugars have been consumed. Sounds to me like you are about ready for SAMPLE!

    Negative Pressure in Carboy Issue

Despite the warnings in the materials sheet, starsan is pretty innocuous stuff. Watch out for the undiluted stuff, don't drink THAT. I would be really surprised if it affected the flavor, starsan is 50% phosphoric acid and that gets used in soda! Watch out though, 25% of starsan is unknown...

    Seeking yeast recommendations

Having only just tapped the keg I have been aging for 9 months, I'm finding the impact of aging to be amazing! I put this keg aside after it came down with rhino farts and forgot about it. When moving things around recently I realized that the "Fart cider" keg was still full! Pulled the blow off...

    Seeking yeast recommendations

I've found a distinct difference between ale/beer yeasts and wine/champagne yeasts. Ale yeasts give a bit of beery funk - US 05 and nottingham are both good Wine/champagne yeasts are cleaner with a hint of wine-like flavor - S04, Premier blanc, and D47 are all good

How many gallons of cider 2019?

Another 5 gallons down, started a 2nd run on premier blanc yeast cake. Very firm yeast cake. My first run was super light and clean tasting. Only the most barely perceptible hint of a champagne flavor and less sour than usual. Amazing with a splash of cranberry in the cup. 1314+5 = 1319...

Rev. Nat's apple market (2nd year)

$6 or 7 per gallon depending on the type of juice you choose

    Commercial ciders

Failed to mention Cascadia Ciderworks. I really like their (sour!) granny smith, better than bad grandmas IMO. Their dry cider is super clean and easy drinking. I'm more likely to go with flavored commercial ciders because I always have a dry, clean cider on tap. I've been exploring commercial...

Rev. Nat's apple market (2nd year)

Both times I've been there, Nat was on the ground pumping juice. He doesn't seem like some highfalutin' owner type. That goes a long way with me. I did a major facepalm when I got home and realized I hadn't taken pictures this year either! Apologies for that. Goal next year, get some pics with...

Rev. Nat's apple market (2nd year)

That sounds like a most generous offer! Yes, I'm interested. Maybe 2-4 gallons worth? I assume i would use 1-2 gallons per 5 gallon batch. Hopefully you are out of town on the west side though! Sending an IM.

Rev. Nat's apple market (2nd year)

I swung by Rev. Nat's apple market again this Saturday... http://reverendnatshardcider.com/news/apple-market-2019/ Barely made it, 5 minutes left. Nat was kind enough to (personally) fill 2 5 gal. corny kegs for me. After asking if I was fermenting in the keg (no) he filled them to the TOP...

How many gallons of cider 2019?

If I may weigh in with my year to date total... 5 gallons every two weeks, 42 weeks so far. Only a handful of days have gone by with no cider in the fridge. Maybe 6 all year. 225 gallons! 1017 + 225 - 1242

    Commercial ciders

Forgot to mention that the event is kid friendly (at least as much as dinner at a pub anyway) and they have warm mulled (soft) cider for the fam for just $1.

    Commercial ciders

Every year. No traditional cider apples as such. Jonagold (clearly a passable cider apple after tasting 2 Towns Outcider), granny smith, and braeburn were there last year if I remember correctly. Huge bushels out front we took a hamper full home. Nat DOES sell his cider blend juice! I think...

    Commercial ciders

Like the OP, I am lucky enough to live in the PNW. So many great ciders here. Some of my favorite commercial ciders have come from 2 towns ciderhouse in Corvallis. Their pacific pineapple is just unbelievable, off sweet, not overpowering pineapple flavor. Other flavors I've had were also super...
