    Oktoberfest lagering time question

So I tried another sample of this today and a couple of weeks have made a huge difference! I think it will be about perfect in a couple of more weeks, and that will end up being about 14 weeks from grain to glass. Pretty much what the original recipe stated. I guess I was getting a little...

Is dry hopping as dangerous as some make it out to be?

Wow! That is some really cool hardware, and some awesome advice. I may start with something simple like the bread bag, and work into something more advanced. I'm feeling a bit more confident in dry hopping. I read somewhere else that some folks will even put a mesh bag around their syphon when...

    Oktoberfest lagering time question

I will certainly give it more time. Honestly I never intended to drink this beast until early October. I just sampled it and it tasted very rough. I hear so many people talk about turning lagers around in 6 weeks, so I figured I would see where it was at. I cant wait to try it again in a couple...

Is dry hopping as dangerous as some make it out to be?

So with a threee piece airlock I'll still be sucking air back down into the beer during the cold crash? What is the balloon trick? I would hate to screw up this new technique by adding O2 back into the beer.

Is dry hopping as dangerous as some make it out to be?

Awesome information fellas, all input is greatly appreciated. It seems there is a pretty big consensus that dry hopping with pellets in the primary is the way to go. What's the best way to rack it afterwards to avoid transferring pellet pieces into the keg? Would cold crashing for a couple days...

Is dry hopping as dangerous as some make it out to be?

So I have been brewing a little while now, have made some good ales and started venturing into lagers. I always love researching brew techniques and advice from those that have been doing this a while. I have made a couple of IPA's that I have dry hopped in the past, I have always put the hops...

    Oktoberfest lagering time question

Interesting information, I do appreciate your reply. So basically when one incorporates a D rest into their fermentation schedule, the lagering period is doing nothing but dropping the beer clear? If this is the case, wouldn't the lagering time be pretty straight forward depending on the yeast...

    Oktoberfest lagering time question

I had kept my notes on a computer that crashed and burned on me, but the basic parameters for the recipe were: 3# pils 4#vienna 5# munich 1 # dark munich 8 oz caramunich III 12 oz melanoidin Yeast was Wyeast 2206 Bavarian Lager

    Not sure what I'm doing!

I will certainly look at it. From the television shows, documentary's, and books that I have read, there always seems to be a lot of stress in making sure equipment is up to snuff so one does not catch themselves on fire. That is the main reason that I was looking at the manufactured jobs. Would...

    Not sure what I'm doing!

I have seen those stills on Amazon. I was curious as to how they are as I want to one day explore this hobby.

Anyone interested in being a Head Brewer for a start up in Oklahoma?

You twisted my arm. I'll do it. When do I start? I can give you an official resume, by a rundown of my qualifications are as follows: I brew on my back deck when it is nice outside, garage when it isn't. Plastic coolers and various jerry rigged pieces make up a great deal of my equipment. My...

    Diacetyl In Keg

I tried doing that once and it didn't help at all. I have heard of others doing it and they claim that it fixed it up. Once guy told me to krausen it, but I never got everything together to do it.

    Oktoberfest lagering time question

So I brewed my third lager back in June, an Oktoberfest/Marzen that I wanted to consume in an effort to ring in the fall. My previous lagering experiences have been mixed. My first was a Dunkel that started out a bit harsh, but after 8 weeks of lagering started to really come into its own...
