    How long in secondary?

Would you apply that loosely to most brews, or specifically to this one? The reason I ask being a relative newbie, is that I've now used secondaries on the last few brews, mainly to reduce the amount of sediment in bottles, but only for perhaps a week, before conditioning for a further two...

First brew coming soon.. some questions now.. :)

Absolutely. My initial equipment purchase got me a glass carboy and a bucket with a lid, and my intention was always to have the glass as primary, 'cos you gotta see it! It was only after bottling my first brew and finding that after conditioning there was more sediment than I'd rather at the...

    Hey! I'm an All-grain Brewer!

Wow, that sounds like quite an achievement, really, an almighty task. I can understand how pleased you must feel, hope it turns out great for you. Just being 5 brews (extract) into my experience, makes me realise that my knowhow is way off to even know where to begin on such a major excercise!

    ? about temperatures for brewing.

Hey there, Just another opinion... I know they helped me. My first brew, a Munton's IPA extract, was fermented in a cupboard that never got above 16C (60F), and was slow to finish. In fact, once bottled and consumed, I'd be prepared to say that I don't think it ever fully fermented...

    First brew.... a little unsure

Hey... Thanks Usmcruz. I didn't aerate the wort... unless giving the carboy a good roll around the floor and a bit of a shake up counts. And by an easy to clean environment, I meant exactly what you have just reaffirmed... a wipe-down tiled area, 'cos they're gonna blow!! And thanks to you...

    First brew.... a little unsure

Oh blast! Is that a real possibility?! Is there no contingency, other than to keep the crates in an easy-to-clean environment?

    First brew.... a little unsure

hmm... just checking another thread, which suggests I've calculated Abw. By multiplying bt a further 1.25 I get the Abv of 2.5%, still low... but a little better.

    First brew.... a little unsure

Temp was constant throughout the fermenting process at 16C in my food larder. Crates will be kept somewhere a little warmer for a day or two, then left for a week at around 15/16C again. Always took out a sample for hydrometer readings. All seems ok then you think?

    First brew.... a little unsure

Hey everyone, Hoping that I've found a wealth of practical experience here, to draw upon and to supplement the small amount of knowledge I have gained from 'The Complete Joy of Homebrewing'. Just bottled my first batch today - a 'Muntons' IPA - but have a few concerns over its progess, and...
