mechanics of a Jaybird false bottom for cooler MLT

I got around this by taking a length of 7/16" beverage tubing (gas line) and cutting a slit the entire length. Then I put it around the circumference of my false bottom to make a "gasket". Makes a tight fit. I know I'm using the tubing for something for which it it was not intended, but I'm...

    Roxton Garage/Brewery build

Here's a link to the grommet page. I used the snap-in grommets. They have many sizes available. Just pick the size you need. The temp probe grommets were snap-in too. Just smaller. McMaster only keeps two years of order history on their website so I don't know exactly what size I ordered...

the most you ever paid for beer

$22 for a 12 oz 2009 Dogfish Head World Wide Stout in 2011. I know this isn't beer, but back in October, I went on a business trip and made the mistake of going to the hotel bar. I offered to buy a round for everyone and we ordered 6 grey goose vodka tonics. The total was over $120. I had...

1950s GE Fridge to Kegerator - with some mods

I just finished refurbishing a fridge exactly like this one. I got it for free and plugged it in and let it run for a day and it worked well. So I tore it all apart, cleaned and painted it. I just got it back together last night and plugged it in. After 45 minutes it was down to 37*. When I...

I want my power to plug into my kettle, not the other way around...

I did this with my boil kettle. You can use Kal's element design and just change a few things to achieve what you want. First, you need to use an extension ring for the two gang wet location box that protects the end of the heating element. Home Depot carries them...

Let's see your fermentation chambers for CONICALS

No, the pipe at the bottom of each conical is a yeast catcher. The catchers hold 3 quarts and work surprisingly well. I've even done a lager in there and it turned out well. The shelves each conical sits on do pull out so you can take them out easily. My uncle owns a winery and has...

I don't know if it is close to where you mentioned, but I can vouch for Against the Grain's beer. Very creative and tasty. I also can't vouch for the food personally, but I've heard it's good. http://www.atgbrewery.com/ Casey

Any Bluegrass or Folk Fans Out There?

That is a great little place. I saw Town Mountain at the Station Inn on January 11. It was so relaxed, low-key, and awesome. That's how I like to listen to live music.

    Remove close nipple?

If you have two nuts that will fit the nipple, you and put them both on the free end and then with some narrow pliers, unscrew only the nut closest to the valve. I've done this many times. For this to work, you can only put the wrench on the inner nut. Here's a pic to demonstrate.
