    So who's brewing this weekend?

Kegging a hoppy blonde today (5 gal) and brewing a 10 gal pale ale tomorrow. Switch between a 10gal batch and 5 gal batch every two weeks. Gives me my around 400 gal/years, not counting cider or mead.

Historical Beer: Kentucky Common "Kiss Yer Cousin" Rye Kentucky Common Ale

I've done this recipes for 50+ gallons, adjusted the ABV from 3.5% to 6.0%. HAve used grits since I've moved to Florida. I really like it in the 5-5.5ABV range using a bigger pitch of US-05 for 5 gal (1.5 packets per 5 gal). I love rye (love me rye whiskey/bourbon) and this recipe also...

The craft beer bubble is busting.

Where I live (NW Florida), there are 2 micro breweries. One serves food, the another not. But the non-food is more outdoor focused, is encouraging our local brewclub, is partnering with local food trucks, and making a great go at rotating 8 taps. The micro is still mostly a taphouse with some...

    Sunday Morning

Happy St Patrick's everyone! SWMBO big holiday celebration day. HB Irish Red on tap, Guinness Foreign in bottles plus various Irish whiskeys and Irish creams abound. Doing bangers and mash with bacon cabbage for mid-day meal later. Will be kegging 5 gal hoppy blonde later today and prepping...

    What are you drinking now?

No pics but watching movies (Boondock 1&2, Quietman, Michael Collins) drinking a 5g of Irish red, Guinness Foreign, Irish cream and Irish whiskey. SWMBO and I go "big" each year for one minor holiday and one event each. Big food and drink on those days. Hers are the Oscars (she's a big movie...

I listen to only a few brewing podcast but also listen to many other podcast. Unfortunately I do spend more time in my car than I like so podcast help pass the time and I also listen when I'm brewing. Brewing podcast are mainly BN shows and have been catching up on Bruelosophy since the...

What size co2 tank should I get?

Also depends what your refill choices are. For the last 15 years where I have lived (2 locations) I only had the choice of 5 or 20 and only to exchange (no places that refill). Then the cost factor. 5s have been $2-$3 more to exchange than 20s, so getting 20s were much more cost effective over...

Why are homebrew people SO cheap??

I think the original thought was paying for the same thing, not like items. If I need 1 lb of Briess carapils, I could go to my LHB store and get it for $2. If I order online, I may pay $1.79 for 1 lb but also pay $8.99 S/H, total cost of $10.78 for that pound. If the 20 gal Blichmann boil...

    Need Hop Rocket Help

I use my hop rocket two different ways. Most of the time I use it between my boil kettle and pump, using 2oz cone to replace my whirlpool. I have also used it occasionally between keg and faucet when doing wet hop IPAs in the late summer. I also use 1/2 lb rice hulls with hops and never had a...

Why are homebrew people SO cheap??

As with any hobby, unless you have unlimited funds, you look for the best value in your purchases. If that's considered "cheap" so be it. I have fixed expenses and those get paid first, savings next, then hobbies. If I had less hobbies, I probably would spell more on home brewing. I do upgrade...

How do you keep propane tanks warm?

When I lived in NW Iowa just a little below Minnesota, I used one of those fermentation heated wraps to keep my propane warm. Then I moved to Florida, haven't had a problem since.

    Bud Light "ingredients label" commercial

A whole new breed of beer festival

How are you going to verify professional brewers? And what type of positions qualify as "pro brewers"? Very cool idea, would love our local brewclub do something like this. And if you don't mind me asking, where is the prize money coming from?

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

Yep you got me :), I blame alcohol consumption while posting. It is the reverse. I haven't been around since I posted earlier. I have both batches kegged and holding at 45F, will drop to 32F this weekend before carbing Monday to tap the weekend after this. Will run both through cobra taps...

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

Been watching this thread for a while now and decided to give the warm lager idea a try. Not going to do a lager though. Brewing a 10 gal batch Tuesday of a tried and true recipe that probably is closest to a Kentucky Commons style as far a styles go. It's something I brew year round but...
