Who is brewing on Long Island?

Should I drink it or sell it? Not really Homebrew related. I’m retiring from NYPD on April 30th After 22 yrs I scored a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 23 yr bourbon For 280 bucks (msrp) from a guy at a liquor store who was clueless and was probably immediately fired around ten years ago. I...

Who is brewing on Long Island?

Happy New Years LI brewers. So I decided this year I’m gonna do ten gallon batches. First brew day was flawless maybe an extra hour or so between boiling and chilling. Transferred 12 gallons to the fermenter. Went to pick up to put in chamber.... yea that fermenter will be staying where it...

Who is brewing on Long Island?

I do 14 oz in fermenter and 7 oz in keg. The bags are 7 oz each. Doesn't seem like much but it has a plenty coconut flavor. Next time I’ll throw all 3 in fermenter throw on spunding valve. Got all rounder still figuring it out

It’s a quick turnaround brew. I serve at 3 weeks. Coconut covers any green flavors if they are there. Tastes like an almond joy. I get the coconut from Whole Foods it’s 3 bucks for a bag pre toasted

I make the regular porter from morebeer every year. I add two 7 oz. bags of toasted coconut to fermenter and another bag to keg. Welcome to the forum

    Does anyone recirculate after mash

Updating an old post. Last Few batches I waited an hour after cooling/whirlpool to transfer. That’s more like it. It never affected the beer but my trub line was always above the entire spigot After fermentation.

    Would this work/First 10G Batch

Went with the pour over sparge and it worked great. For some reason I always thought that i would some how have to the bag open while hanging and pour through the opening. Thanks for the tips.

    Would this work/First 10G Batch

I was thinking more for volume than efficiency, I think ill check gravity after mash and decide either way the sparge water will be there. Good call on fermcap I forgot what a boil over was doing 5 gallon batches in 15 gallon kettle.

    Would this work/First 10G Batch

I am going to attempt my first a 10 gallon batch in my 15 gallon kettle. I can't fit a full volume so instead of a dunk sparge I was thinking of draining 2 or three gallons from the kettle after the mash is complete into a bucket then adding the sparge water into the kettle with the bag/grains...

Floating Dip Tube - Which One?

Worked great in keg was able to purge entire keg without it hanging up. Also used 2 oz dry hops in keg and poured clear. Haven’t used it in fermenter yet but think it will be fine.

Which charcoal smoker do you have?

Couldn’t agree more. Been a wsm 18 cooker for 25 years. Been left outside no cover looks brand new. Now I need to get some beer medals.

Which charcoal smoker do you have?

Finally finished took a few years with a cheap harbor freight welder. Backwoods style clone. It’s a beast didn’t realize when I started but it’s gotta close to 500 lbs. can’t believe it never noticed the smoking meat forum.

Floating Dip Tube - Which One?

I have CBDS and two Morebeer floats. No problems with the CBDS but with the Morebeer ones the tubing gets stuck above beer level or water level when purging kegs. I just ordered these and think the extra weight will fix the problem. For 4 bucks its worth a shot. Gonna try one in All Rounder...
