Mexican Cake clone info - directly from Westbrook Brewery

I brewed this recently. Started with the recipe from post #40 and tweaked it to brewery recipe posted later. I ended up using only 1 habenero, if it did it again I'd use 2...just seems to loose more after time. Ended at 1.020. Pretty balanced, good mouth feel, etc. Pretty smooth for being...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Tried to squeeze in brewing another batch of this on Thanksgiving morning. All went good, pitched a starter of WPL 008, it took off Friday morning. Had to leave town for a few days Friday evening, so I hit it with the 6 oz dry hop...figured it had a blowoff tube so I'd be OK....came back today...

    Finially tried a NE IPA

Thanks. I'll have to make a point to stop by, looks like they're only open on Fridays and Saturdays.

    Finially tried a NE IPA

What's the name of the place? I'm in the next town over and I have my second NE IPA in the fermenter...first one went quick. Would like to have something to compare it to. I highly recommend this thread/recipe to start with: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=568046

    Classic Dusseldorf Altbier Recipe.

FYI, posted the recipe at: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?p=7931624#post7931624 Thanks Magnus, great beer! Couldn't stop drinking it, definitely adding it to my standard line-up! :mug:

    Altbier Arschbombe Alt (Düsseldorf Altbier)

This recipe is based on the original posting and linked article from Magnus Böner, as well as some interpretation and subsequent discussion in the HBT thread: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=598951 6 lbs, 10 oz Pilsen (60.3%) 2 lbs Munich (18.2%) 10 oz Wheat Malt (5.7%)...

    Classic Dusseldorf Altbier Recipe.

Ok, follow-up. Crashed, finned, and burst-carbed it. Tried it today and it's pretty good. As I said before, I don't have a good reference point to compare it to but it's clean, balanced, smooth, and very drinkable...dare I say lager-like? Pretty clear at this point and carbed up well (great...

    Classic Dusseldorf Altbier Recipe.

Brew day went well/uneventful except for a boil over, but no harm done. Everything was spot on. Mashed 90 min, boiled 90 min (original recipe called for 120 min). Ended up right at OG 1.050...thank you BeerSmith. I had to adjust hop additions up as the AA% of what I ended up getting at...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I'll probably try a bigger 1.5L starter+harvest with 1318 for this next one...usually do a2L. Back on topic but referencing Brulosophy...thinking about trying bru-1 hops with Citra and Mosaic...anyone have any thoughts?

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Thanks. Just realized that my post was probably confusing...seeing how I just realized I confused you with Brulosophy...my bad, but equal respect for both of you! Regardless, awesome recipe! Going on my 3rd batch & hop combo...either citra-mosaic-amarillo or citra-citra-mosiac.

Brau, I use your original starter technique with developing an extra 100 billion cells and then saving them off for future use. Are you still doing this the 1L starter? If so, any details would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Classic Dusseldorf Altbier Recipe.

Finally getting around to brewing this this weekend. I've kicked around changing the hop schedule or using spalt hops or brewing the JZ version but I'm just going to go with Magnus' original. Everything will essentially be the same with a couple minor exceptions. Still can't bring myself to...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Brewed the update original recipe but didn't transfer to secondary; both dry hop additions went into the primary. I used S04 and had excellent results F.G. 1.014. Great aroma and great taste! Thanks for sharing the recipe Braufessor!

That's was my first thought. Magnus' recipe had carafa special II. I was just considering upping that to get around the target. I suspect it might add a little color with the 90 min boil as well.

    Classic Dusseldorf Altbier Recipe.

Great read. I've been looking at doing an alt for a while and the recipe looks interesting. I scaled it down to 6 gal and ended up with a few questions. First is the whirlpool additions, I end up with about 3oz total...does that sound about right? For some reason that just seemed high...

    Competition scoring question

Definitely a subjective process. I recently sent the same beer off to two separate competitions, only one week between the competitions. I wanted to get some professional feedback other than what I get from my semi-professional drinking friends. First competition, scored 37 and got some good...

    Vacation Portland Oregon

I've spent a lot of time over the years in Portland on business travel. Beer-and-food-wise you can't go wrong with any place by McMenamins. They're a great story and Edgefield in particular is awesome...A little farther out in Gresham but plan on making it a day...and plan on a cab back to the...
