    Everything stopped!

I was going to go down this road to. But a little more drastic. If the temp it was be held at dropped below the recommended level, it may have stalled/slowed down, appearing to be ‘done’ then as ambient temperature increased back to normal, activity picked up again. This would explain the start...

What factors affect the body of a beer?

I started adding .75-1lb of white wheat to my beers. Doesn’t change the flavor of what I was going for in my opinion, but gives it that little creaminess to it. I’ve tried Carapils and Carafoam, to add dextrins, but I didn’t get the same affect I did with white wheat.

    Everything stopped!

Simple answer. It finished. After high Krausen you’ll see a dramatic drop off in activity. The exponential growth of yeast also means exponential conversion of sugar to alcohol and co2. It simply just finished ‘eating’ all the sugar. Nothing to worry about. Try raising the temperature a couple...

white spots on my glass! please help!

Next time use a funnel to put the yeast in. Keeps it away from the wet walls after transferring/cleaning. It also ensure it all goes in the fermenter and no half in the floor…been there.

When do I add campden tablets during all grain Brew?

Interacting…? How so? I use half a tablet per 5 gallons everytime. I add during the heat up of my strike. I add my salts shortly after. I do my normal process, and have activity in my blow off usually within 15-18 hours. Sometimes less if I do a starter. Not sure if that would be less if your...

    Shelf Stability

Shops may tell you that because they want to sell you another carboy or vessel of some kind. There are times that is necessary, but not required. Little to no air in the bottle is best. After filling (assuming you are using a wand) tilt the bottle and it the little black plunger on the end...

    Inkbird cooling won’t work

I tried this. The light comes on but the fridge does not. The display reads set at top and 000 at the bottom.

    Inkbird cooling won’t work

I am pretty sure this specific Ranco does both at the same time. It is two stage and wired with a heating and cooling plug. A little janky though. Thanks. I searched it and have it tabbed for me to look at tomorrow. I found a wiring schematic how to use it as a switch. I don’t know a lot about...

    Inkbird cooling won’t work

Ya crazy. And it looks tacky. I found another couple less expensive types that are 15A but have 30A relays. For $45 I figured I would try it. If the Inkbird did ok for awhile with the loads, perhaps the 15A will be enough…wishful thinking maybe. bayite Temperature Controller 1650W 15A BTC211...

    Inkbird cooling won’t work

For quick reference do you know of a controller, preferably dual, that can with stand higher amp loads? I am not opposed to spend more within reason if it solves my problem. A lot easier than finding and converting another fridge. I am assuming since mine lasted for a bit because the load isn’t...

Thanks I will look into it.

    First brew: NB Caribou Slobber

Rule of thumb, if it takes and smells ok, you can brew with it.

    First brew: NB Caribou Slobber

Just use filter bottled water from the store. You could use distilled water and add salts to the style of beer but that is more advanced stuff. Focus on the little things like cleaning and prep, process efficiency to limit brew time and errors. Temp control is important, but as long as you...

    Looks like reasonably low amps?

    Inkbird cooling won’t work

So the size and starting amperage (not running amps) is probably the problem. I will check the specs when I get home. It is an indrustrial fridge like you see at a gas station with the glass door, and it is fairly big…so I’m guessing this is why. May just be a thing that I buy a new one here...

    Inkbird cooling won’t work

Regular settings yes. I’m asking is there some other hidden setting. You mentioned amperage. As far as I can tell there are no fuses on the Inkbird? Is there something that can short or over heat. A resistor that pops for going on and off. That is what I am looking for. It is supposed to turn on...

    Inkbird cooling won’t work

What settings? I’ve been using it with no issues on and off for months. Cools and heats no problem, then all of a sudden, no longer turns the fridge on. Or anything for that matter. I tried plugging a light in that socket and set the temp to try to ‘cool’ powering the light and no power. It’s...

    Inkbird cooling won’t work

308 with wifi I’ve been reading posts about Inkbird failures. But mostly people are talking about the beer freezing. That isn’t my problem. For the second time (second unit) in six months, the unit won’t kick on the fridge to cool. The green light kicks on but the fridge doesn’t turn on. The...

    Big Deal or No

With Vienna and Munich I’m guessing is something like an Oktoberfest? Which I think a slightly higher temp benefits the profile of that style of beer. And even then it was only higher for a bit than came back down to an average temp. 140-148 for thinner drier, 149-158 for medium and 159-168 for...
