240V heating element + GFCI wiring sanity check...

Well, in my case, GFCI installed and no trip, tested fine too. Think I'm good. Thanks for all the advice and hope this thread can help others in a similar situation, even if they think they just need to defer to a local pro opinion.

Thread adapter for knockout - 5/8-18 to GHT = holy grail?

Nice, SanPancho, no doubt you understand what I was saying, just a tad of a verbose posting for sure! I was thinking about attacking this "under the sink", but I guess that may have been too easy? Those are far more standard too, going back that route and thanks for the kick in the a**.

240V heating element + GFCI wiring sanity check...

Doug, solid copy, that's good news! I just measured at the wall and answered my question solid that Bobby pointed out earlier - this is bi-phase and if I use only a single leg, my only option is 120VAC, which is a fail... Bobby, I'm working in a "local" GFCI strictly for this load, but not at...

Thread adapter for knockout - 5/8-18 to GHT = holy grail?

Thanks tracer bullet, I've actually checked McMaster, Grainger, and even Swagelok, which is what pointed me to high pressure gas/fuel fittings, should've mentioned that above... I agree I'm likely to get pushed to an NPT fitting one way or another. SanPancho - 5/8" x 18 is designating a 5/8"...

Thread adapter for knockout - 5/8-18 to GHT = holy grail?

Hi all, Drawing on the wealth of expertise on here in brewing and all else perhaps to adapt as the title suggests, more specifically I need: 5/8" x 18 (fine) male thread going to GHT (garden hose) female to drive a plate chiller for knockout. Definitely would consider going straight from the...

240V heating element + GFCI wiring sanity check...

A follow up question would be how to get a GFCI in-line with this element. Is it correct that currently, this bi-phase configuration will not work as a single phase GFCI like this, depends on a single hot line referenced to a neutral line? But, I have a neutral to use at my source, making the...

240V heating element + GFCI wiring sanity check...

Beautiful, thanks! I saw the threads in that center hole after I posted so your post makes total sense, Bobby. I'm going to use potting material on this after assembled to keep it from falling apart, so that will keep the ground isolated.

    Electrical Primer for Brewers

Thanks all, verified all paths I was following, really appreciate it! I guess a "gentle" heat with such friendly organisms is required - 40W is probably better than say, the 80W option of a wrap due to the InkBird's reaction time...?

    Electrical Primer for Brewers

Thanks you Doug, this is exactly what I concluded and even though the Inkbird would more than handle the pump for cold-control, it's insufficient for heating in this config, which is ok, Inkbird actually has a 1800W option...

    Electrical Primer for Brewers

Extremely late to this game, but a great write up and I'm honing in on this statement in considering my new setup: "Example: An element rated for 5500 Watts at 240 Volts used at 120 Volts has an actual Wattage rating of 1375 Watts. To determine the current draw, divide 1375 Watts/ 120 Volts =...
