    Tyskie Beer

Hello, My Great Uncle has just returned from a trip to Poland and has been raving about Tyskie beer. He has asked if I can brew him something similar. Does anyone have a clone recipe or has anyone brewed anything similar? I am not currently an all-grain brewer but I brew with extracts and...

    Belgian White Recipe Kit?

When are you supposed to add the coriander/orange peel during the boil?

Belgian Dark Strong Ale Rochefort 10 clone

I did a Rochefort 8 clone that is in my secondary right now. I think the next time I do it I might culture some yeast from a bottle of Rochefort. I just drank a bottle of Rochefort 8 on Friday. One thing I noticed is that the flavor is extremely simple. I doubt there is very much in the way...

    Belgian Dark Strong Ale

Thanks for the advice. Next time I'll leave it on the yeast a month and add the sugar later. I think it will be OK though. There seems to be a good amount of yeast activity this AM. I'll check gravity again in a couple weeks - I bet it will be down in the 1.03 range.

    Belgian Dark Strong Ale

I looked at it this afternoon and it looks like it is started again. I am getting 1 blip every 8 seconds. I think moving it around and stirring it up kicked it up a bit. I think I'll recheck the gravity again in another 2 weeks and then again 2 weeks after that. I thought about champagne...

    Belgian Dark Strong Ale

Hello, I am brewing a Belgian Dark Strong Ale according to the following recipe, which I modified from a recipe I found in a book: My starting gravity was 1.100. I just racked it to the secondary. I measured the gravity and it was 1.042, corresponding to an ABV of about 7.5%. I was kind...

    Strongbow clone?

Looking at the ingredients, they probably make it by mixing their apple juice and enough glucose to get a SG that will yield the right amount of ABV (or at least close). When it is done fermenting they likely adjust the ABV by adding water and then sulfite it. I've had strongbow and it taste...

    Sweet Cider

I'm thinking long and hard about the type of yeast I am going to use. Unless you want a cider that is like 17% ABV it might be more prudent to use a yeast that isn't meant for wine or mead. This is only my theory of course. I was looking at one of the yeasts that is supposedly just for...

    Sweet Cider

I'm curious if Sweet Mead yeast would actually leave the cider sweet. I recently made a mead with Wyeast sweet mead yeast that is supposed to have an ABV tolerance of only 10%. Well by 2 weeks it had fermented from 1.112 to 0.996 with an ABV of 16.25% and dry as the desert. Has anyone...

    Premium Honey in Central Iowa

24 pounds. I might go back in a couple weeks and buy 24 more!

    Scotch Eggs

That sounds amazing. Any particular chutney you find goes real well? Care to post a recipe? I make my own sausage as well. I live in Iowa where there are pigs-a-plenty.

    Premium Honey in Central Iowa

I was at Spring Valley Farms today. He is currently spinning combs and has raw (unheated, unfiltered, just spun from the comb 5 minutes ago) honey. We talked for about an hour about honey, bee health, honey uses and the honey business. He is the nicest guy you'll ever meet. If you're...

    Scotch Eggs

Seriously, they are so easy to make and such a welcome surprise to your guests. Plus they go amazingly well with homebrew. In the video, the first shot of beer is my first ever pint of homebrew, which just happened to be an English Ale.
