    Overcarbed or Green?

ok, thanks for the quick response. I was imagining that if I left it alone for long enough the carbonation would find its way into the beer. I imagine this will be the first batch I have to dump. Not gonna rush it though, I will let them sit here for a few more weeks before I do anything. rob

    Overcarbed or Green?

ok, so I have brewed 6 batches, all extract and they all turned out reasonably well. My latest batch, Northern Brewer, Grapefruit "pulpin", has had some issues. I opened a bottle after 10 days and I was all foam, it also had a sharp taste, and was not good. I waited the rest of the 2 week...

First Recipe not in a kit, Sierra Nevada Style Pale Ale

Alright, to keep my pipeline going, I'm going to attempt a Sierra Nevada style American Pale Ale recipe I found. Here it is: 5 pounds, unhopped light dry malt extract 1/2 pound, dark crystal malt 1 ounce, Cascade hops (60 minute boil) 1/2 ounce, Cascade (30 minute boil) 1/2 ounce...

American Wheat slow to start fermenting?

I brewed my third brew last night. It was the last of the kits I bought with my initial equipment from Northern Brewer (before the merger). The first two were the Irish Red and the Caribou Slobber. The first two brews started fermenting very quickly, within 12 hours there was significant...

    Cracked my stovetop

I just got the email about the one one sale at NB. I will likely pick up that one so i will have a decent kettle as well. As far as the stove goes, its not terribly much more for a basic stove ($250 vs $500), so that is how we are going. Here in Central Virginia i will have plenty of time to...

Plastic Big Mouth Bubbler not sealing

I just started my first real batch yesterday. I opened my fermenting chamber today and there is a nice layer of foam so its definitely working. however the top of the bubbler seemed to be pushed up a bit and there weren't any bubbles coming out of the airlock. I read through some of the...

    Cracked my stovetop

Yeah, sorry for the miscommunication. The wort was chilling in an ice bath in the sink. When we heard the crack we figured it was just ice cracking, and didn't see the crack in the stove right away. I can only theorize that the condensation that collected on the range hood dripped onto the...

    Cracked my stovetop

Well, the brewing itself went great for my first try (Irish red Ale extract kit from Northern Brewer). However as the wort was sitting in the ice bath we heard a loud crack, thinking it was ice we proceeded talking and enjoying drinks. I don't think it was the weight, I think the condensation...

    Greetings from Central Virginia

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I'm brand new to brewing. I brewed a few Mr. Beer kits and am getting ready to try my first 5 gallon batch from Northern Brewer. As soon as all my equipment arrives and my brewing buddy is ready, it will be a go!
