Using prickly pear (and other fruits)

Hello all, I want to make a prickly pear beer. It's my first time using this ingredient so I have some questions I wanted to run by you all. This is for a 5 gallon all grain batch. 1) What style beer would you recommend using as a base? Right now, I am thinking a SMASH pale ale with...

Converting beersmith calculations (IBU, SRM) with different batch size (5 to 4)

I couldn't a 4 gallon option. It only lets me choose between 5, 1, 3.5, and 10. Maybe because I'm using the mobile app?

Converting beersmith calculations (IBU, SRM) with different batch size (5 to 4)

I made an ESB on Sunday, and I ended up with a 4 gallon batch instead of 5. Ended up boiling for 10 extra minutes by accident (I think it will end up more like a lighter Black IPA). Anyway I ended up with 4 gallons instead of 5, which I'm sure was not all boiled off in those 10 minutes...

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

    New to lagers

Hello, I am a relatively new brewer (6 brews under my belt), and I'm planning to try my first lager. I live in a crappy college house so our heating isn't great and I've been having trouble keeping my fermenters at a constant and high temp (looking into fermentation heating setups) but for...

    Brewing in an oversized fermentor

I boiled off too much. I shook it up but maybe it didn't aerate enough? Also I opened it last night and there was no kraussen at all so I think I should repitch some yeast

    Brewing in an oversized fermentor

I did a brew on Saturday, due to some miscalculations and mismeasurements, I ended up with 3.5 gallons of post-boil wort. I pitched a full packet of rehydrated yeast in a 6.5 gallon bucket anyway. Four days later, the airlock is still pretty inactive. There is condensation on the inside, but it...

    Cleaning lingering flavor

Unfortunately that is exactly the setup that has a lingering flavor of peach. Guess I'll get another

    Cleaning lingering flavor

Thanks! I'll try those suggestions. Sounds like I should get a dedicated cider bucket (I guess I have one already!) I've got a Carboy, but bottling with it is always a disaster. Am I being dumb or is that just always a problem?

    Cleaning lingering flavor

I made a delicious peach cider, but the flavor is very strong and now my fermentation bucket just smells like peach cider. It's a 5 gallon food grade plastic bucket from the Northern Brewer kit. I guess my first question is if the flavor will be converted into my next brew? (Thinking of a...
