    Adding flavoring agents to secondary

Well, it all worked out fine. The beer was a hit with the crowd; drinkable but with some bite, and the tea and lemon flavors were detectable but not overwhelming. I also has an ESB on hand for people who wanted more hops, but even my cousin, who is something of a hop fiend, said he would like...

Help! (Can I switch a tank from nitrogen to CO2?)

Ah, yes. I checked out the connection, and the Nitro bottle has female threads where the threads on the CO2 bottle are male. So even if I got the right gas, my regulator obviously wouldn't fit without another piece. Plus, getting refills of the right gas would become a hassle. Thanks for the...

Help! (Can I switch a tank from nitrogen to CO2?)

I bought a used 5-lb. tank locally via Craigslist for the kegerator I'm building (I'm currently using a borrowed CO2 tank). When I looked it over after I got home, I saw that the sticker on it said "Nitrogen, Compressed." (I didn't notice the label when I picked up the bottle this afternoon; I...

    Tower cooler idea / question

Interesting. I guess I'll start by just making the hole for my hoses large enough that the air in the tower will connect with the air inside the fridge and see what happens. If I get too much foam, I can always modify it later. Thanks.

    Tower cooler idea / question

I'm building my first kegerator, and I'm going to make a tower for the taps out of black iron pipe. I understand that these towers can get warm between pours, causing foaming. I've seen solutions that involve pumping cold fluid (or blowing cold air) up the pipe, but couldn't I just create a...

    Adding flavoring agents to secondary

I'm making a brew that I want to be flavored like iced tea, for a Labor Day party. I brewed a mild-flavored but fairly big Amber Ale (extract, since I didn't have time for a full-blown brew day, and had the Labor Day target). Should be around around 21 IBU and 5.8% abv. I wanted to get the...

IBU value for coffee / a coffee bitter?

So, did you ever try this, Arrheinous? What were your results? (I found this thread while looking for answers to basically the same question you started the thread with.)

I use Corel Draw (not free). I print the labels on plain paper at FedEx/Kinko's and attach them with milk.

In bottles now, almost ready to drink: Going into bottles in the next few days: Next brew day: Although I've realized that I need to change the "Bottle conditioned" warning on the last one, since you are supposed to drink the yeast in a Hefeweizen.

Ooops! Any problems with delaying bottling for one day after priming?

Well, I finished capping them the next day, and they turned out fine. I opened one after one week, and it was pretty flat, but by two weeks they had carbonated fine.

My most recent label is for a summer blonde ale. This is the first one designed after I settled on the "Gearhead" brand, so I was looking for mechanical themes. Combined with blondes. The only problem was that I couldn't choose which art to use, so I just did three versions of the label and used...

My third label was for a pale ale that used only Amarillo hops, so I decided I needed a Texas theme. I was still stuck on rabbits, though. This batch was done before I added the "Gearhead" brand.

My second label. The recipe for my first actual beer was the Dogfish Head 60 min. IPA clone, which inspired the name. This version of the label is actually from my second iteration of this recipe, by which time I had decided I needed a brand: Gearhead Brewing.

My first label (first brewed in Fall 2015; this is from a later batch). My wife came up with the name, and I found the movie poster online and modified it:

Ooops! Any problems with delaying bottling for one day after priming?

It's a big beer, an IPA with about 9% ABV. That means the yeast should take longer to metabolize the sugar, right? I figure I'll go ahead an crimp the caps this evening, after I'm able to get the capper, then do as you suggest: wait about 3 weeks, and if the beer is too flat, re-prime the...

Ooops! Any problems with delaying bottling for one day after priming?

I was bottling (my fourth batch) yesterday, and I hit a snag. I racked my beer into a bottling bucket and primed it with sugar (about 3 oz. of table sugar for a 4-gallon batch, dissolved in boiling water, then cooled). Then I filled all my bottles, but when I went to put caps on, I couldn't find...

    Simple venturi aeration technique

First post here from a relatively new brewer. Apologies in advance if I'm re-inventing the light bulb. I was looking for an easy way to aerate my wort without splashing wort everywhere or buying expensive equipment. I put together a simple venturi system that involves a 1/4" ID barbed tee and...
