    Brown to Sour

I have a brown ale that was going to be part of a communal project into a barrel. This may no longer happen, however. The beer has been sitting in a secondary corny keg for two weeks. Is there anything I can do to produce the sour?

    Cartridge Filter Re-use

Do any of you re-use your cartridge filters after filtering your beer into a keg? I currently have not, but am exploring the possibility. I am using a 1M cartridge. I just transferred 10 gal through the filter and kegged. I then back-flushed with warm water and Star San. The filter isn't...

    Fermenter Capacity

I recently obtained a 55 gal ss fermenter. The question: How small a batch of wort can I ferment with the 55 gal capacity? Would it even matter if the fermentation gives off enough CO2 to replace the O2? Thanks.

    Starter for Brew Today

I'm pretty sure the answer will be to 'go ahead'...Can I make a starter today and use it effectively 6 hours later after my boil is finished? Or, will there not be enough viable extra yeast? I can just pitch the vials, I've done that before.

Cooling Jacket for Blickman 14.5 Fermenter

I don't want to build a fridge space for my Blickman 14.5 fermenter. Anyone have an idea for a controlled cooling jacket? If this idea costs more than a fridge I will have to go that route. Got the fermenter as part of a 'deal' and really want to use it. Thanks for your time.

    Enough Room in Kettle?

I am brewing an all-grain this morning with 31 lbs of grain. My Mash Tun holds only 14 gal...my calculations using a 1.3qt per lb. of grain = 10.075 gal. Can this mash be done with only one step or do I need to split it, etc.? This may be similiar to the 'double batch' thread below. I only...

    Efficiency Problems

Mash H2O: 4.75gal Sparge H2O: Calculation calls for 7.25gal. I added enough to bring it to 8gal in the LT if needed. Mash at 152 for 60 minutes using the SMART Circulation. Went well. Sparge at 168. Have trouble getting this dialed in with the correct flow. Sparged for 45 minutes...

    Garden Hose

I am using a basic garden hose for delivery of my water to my pots. I do have it hooked up to a filter for chlorine elimination. Is there going to be any adverse effect, or for that matter any effect from using one of these hoses or do I really need something that is food-grade. I was...

    False Bottom Problems

I have a three-tier 10gal More Beer system that also runs on the SMART (recirculation at mash). My problem: The grain is getting stuck at on the top of the false bottom while attempting to mash approx. 8lbs grain with 2.25 gal water. Is this too little to use for such a large pot (10gal)? I...

    Looking for Thread

There is a thread on this site somwhere that has various people giving out url's to many, many topics that we can use for our brewing. I am looking specifically for the one that talked about a brew pot and the conversion of gallons to inches, etc. I would love to earmark the entire thread, so...

    Thin Beer Wanting...

My friend made her very first beer, a brown ale. Regardless of the receipe, it tastes a little 'thin'. Is there addition she can do to make it more robust? It's not a bad beer but needs a little tweak to really make it drinkable. Would she be able to add some spice or another adjunct to the...

    leaks in my system

ok, I got my beer into the keg nicely and hooked up to the CO2 easily. Drained all of it eventually over a two hour period so I have a leak somewhere. If I have gas already in the keg, my beer should be alright, correct? Then it's a matter of finding the leak? My hose from the tank is split...

I got for free (now I know why) a few cornies. I cannot get the connects to loosen with my rachet wrench. Anyone know what might work. Thanks.

DME vs. Corn Sugar as a Primer

Hello, I have seen a couple of threads on this forum about this subject with most people saying that the corn sugar would be the better of the two as a primer mainly because of a quicker carbonation. I hope I am correct with this...tell me if I am wrong. However, I am attempting a Belgian...
