2V E-HERMS using hybrid sparging to eliminate HLT

Hey Bobby thanks for your input. Interesting to hear your confidence in the eBIAB. Ultimately it is the most simplified system. I think I'm just partial against something being too easy maybe? What I hated about the BM 50 liter was lifting the basket, disturbing the clear wort, fighting with...

    HERMS Step Mashing

it's not a recirculating method, but fwiw touches on your comment. Many german home brewers heat the mash from below (gas or hot plate) and often have motored mash tun rakes. The mash (not just wort) is drained into a separate lauter tun, then lautered back into the first vessel for boiling...

2V E-HERMS using hybrid sparging to eliminate HLT

Hi, So I'm thinking about building a new setup and started by comparing the equipment and process using different scenarios. I currently use a 3V HERMS. It works fine, but I would like to 1-improve ease in cleaning, 2-simplify process by reducing hose changes and 3-not spend too much money...

Stuck Gravity Feed Through Plate Heat Exchanger

That’s a new idea worth trying, putting the Filter inlet below. Thanks

Stuck Gravity Feed Through Plate Heat Exchanger

Thanks for the suggestions guys I have also made various attempts with the pump and haven't found a reliable method yet. I suspect a vapor lock between the dip tube and filter/HEX is being caused by some amount of wort in the lower HEX plates. I also thought vertical or HEX outlet upward...

Stuck Gravity Feed Through Plate Heat Exchanger

Hi, Here is a picture of my setup at knockout. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/basement-brewery-and-bar.687564/#post-9022356 https://www.homebrewtalk.com/attachments/1d6e7095-88c3-4a65-8a1c-3b8a43c9bf0f-jpeg.709524/ I usually gravity feed through my filter and plate HX into the...

Auber PID vs Electric Brew Supply PID

I'm in a nearby boat; thinking of changing from CraftbeerPi to hardware PID's and the EZboil caught my eye. Does this mean that I can manually control the PWM duty cycle with the EZ boil? For example, I have enough juice to run both my elements simultaneously, but I still worry that my...

VLB Berlin Craft Brewing in Practice

Thanks for asking. So we spent 3 days in the lab doing various measurements and analysis on water, malt, and wort and looking at yeast and bacteria. We spent 2 days in their brewery which is a miniature sized (250 L) macro brewery. This thing has all the bells and whistles of a major...

    Basement Brewery and Bar

Thanks! It wasn’t all pleasant, but doing it myself was very satisfying.

    Starter was way too strong

Thanks. So 48 hrs after pitching starter into wort, I saw the manometer start to shift. Another 6 hrs later and she’s bubbling like she should. I’m just going to let it go. More delay than normal, just wonder if the flavor will be noticeable.

    Starter was way too strong

I don't know where my head was, but I started a liquid pack of sandy-eggo super yeast with way too much sugar. I made my starter 0.5 liter with 150 g DME. This is about 26P or 1.113 SG . It did show some good activity as a starter, but now 24 hours after I pitched into 14P wort, no...

    Basement Brewery and Bar

Hello, About 1.5 years after moving to a new (to us) house, I finally have the basement brewery running. It took a few runs to get a handle on the motions, but it works well. I did spend a year scoping the electric brewery‘a gallery and others for inspiration. The bar is between the brewery and...

VLB Berlin Craft Brewing in Practice

For what it’s worth, I attended the course in 2018. It cost quite a lot, and I was expecting more practical, hands-on experience than what we got. But overall it was a lot of fun in a cool city, and I did learn a lot, and met some cool people. Cheers

    Motor Soft Start/Stop

Hi, Just wondering if anyone is using a soft start/stop on their motors? I'm mostly concerned about the ac compressor motors on my keezer and my cornelius chiller which are both simply switched by a stc 1000. In the case of my chiller, the stc is hard wired and I've bypassed the...

    CraftBeerPi - Raspberry Pi Software

Hi, it's me again :) So I accidentally unplugged the raspberry pi while it was running a fermentation process. After I plugged it back in, I couldn't connect to it's IP address. I connected a monitor and tried to restart it. First craftbeerpi fails to load and I get this message: you are in...

    Illuminated Rocker Switch DPST Wiring

Thanks for everyone’s input. Originally I had the switch connected before the SSR. As you pointed out, depending on which side I connected the mains, the led is either always lit or when the switch is on. Then I put the SSR before the switch hoping to see the element activity in the led. But...

    Illuminated Rocker Switch DPST Wiring

Hi, thanks for the reply, I may have the colors backwards, but in my box the blue bank has 230V and the brown doesn’t. Here is a picture of the diagram. I believe this is the switch. There are only 4 terminals...

    CraftBeerPi - Raspberry Pi Software

Thanks, While I'm at it :) I wanted to ask about the chart feature. Up to now, I've never had my chart feature work. If I run a sequence and then go to view chart, I only see a white blank field. If I download it as another file type, it's still just blank. Missing the chart during an hour...
