Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Thanks everyone for your comments and thoughts. It has helped a lot. When it comes to chilling my wort I have a plate chiller so there would be no need for removing the lid. I also had a floor drain roughed in the concrete floor when they poured the basement so I’m good there too. It’s...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

So I'm building a new house and I have a Brew Room in the basement. It is on an outside wall and I can easily install a vent in the wall to vent the steam via a hood and fan and also pull make up air back in. However, after reading through this thread, I'm wondering if this would not be a...

SS BrewTech Conical Fermentor for Distilling?

I was unaware of the thoughts about using silicone as that’s what I use in all my beer brewing equipment. Guess I will have to make a choice but the lid seals to my fermenter (Which I’m using as a boil pot) using a silicone gasket, that would be impossible to find in ptfe just right not to leak.

SS BrewTech Conical Fermentor for Distilling?

Well I pulled the trigger on Black Friday and purchased a 2” modular reflux still column from mile hi distillery. That way I can run it as reflux or pot still. Was thinking of ordering the following to make a online gin basket. Ordering two of the bowl sections and putting them together with...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Yes I was thinking of adding about 2oz of spruce at no more than 5 minutes prior to flameout. Haven’t thought about the cinnamon as I know it can be over pretty overpowering and can take a while to mellow out. I would like to have this ready to drink by mid December. You think the cinnamon...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I was thinking of brewing this beer but with more of a "holiday" flare to it. What are the thoughts of adding some orange peel, honey, and spruce tips to this recipe?

SS BrewTech Conical Fermentor for Distilling?

That's what I was thinking, my only worry I guess would be dry firing my element in the bottom of the fermenter once I have boiled off much of the mash. I also don't want to ruin one of my fermenters either but since I wouldn't be reaching too hot of temps I was thinking it'd be ok.

SS BrewTech Conical Fermentor for Distilling?

I have an all electric beer brewing setup and a couple of SS BrewTech 7 Gal Fermenters. I was curious if anyone here things it would work to use of the fermenters as a still? I could take the bottom elbow off the fermenter and attach my tri clamp heating element from my beer kettle in a...

Fruit Beer "Sweet Melons" Summertime Mango Wheat

Just brewed this recipe today. Ended up with 5.5 gallons in the fermenter. Instead of adding both types of yeast in, I only ended up adding the American wheat ale yeast (wyeast 1010). The wort smelled fantastic and tasted good too. Definitely could taste the dry finish of the Citra hops...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Well, I'm convinced! Seems there is no need to reinvent the wheel here. Thought it may be another way to tackle the same problem but definitely seems like the steam slayer is hard to beat in this instance. On another note though, my wife and I are in the process of working with a home...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

I actually have the penguin glycol chiller and it sits on the bottom shelf of my brewing stand which is why I had the idea to use that verses cooling water. If using the steam slayer with spray nozzle, I’d have to use a garden hose from outside to run into my garage. Although this is not a big...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

What are the thoughts on trying something like this? I was thinking that the steam could pass through the smaller inner tubes and hooking this up to my glycol chiller to run through the inside of larger tube. This type of condenser is used in larger applications like power plants where they...
