    hops removal: uber beginner question

    I use an 8 inch strainer on top of the bucket. It removes all of the large particulates. I am of the belief, and possibly wrong, that you don't want all of the "stuff" in the fermenter. The hops have been boiled to release the oils. hen again, there is dry hopping.....

    Dopplebock

    Sounds like you should just keg it, pump i some CO2 (around 30PSI) for a couple of days. and then down to 10 psi.... As an aside, I don't bottle. I keg it all.....

    Burning in the bottom?

    The problem you are having is due to an inexpensive boiling pot. A single layer, thin, stainless steel pot will not dissipate the heat well. As mentioned above, if this is a concern get a triple bottom pot. A good pot will cost $150 or more.... You can try taking the pot off the burner...
