Spike Conical- observations and best practices

10gal fits in the CF15 just fine. I think they say you can do 5 gallons in there and still have the cooling coil work since it drops in so low. The only issue is the thermowell port and the sample port need to be swapped around. If you ever plan to add fruit or other things to any batches you'll...

I have the CF15 too. I just figured it'd be easier to pump star san through it for a minute than to try to sanitize the whole thing. You should've seen the foam lol. I might not do that again.

I got a 2" to 1.5" Tri clamp adapter so that I can use my regular hose that has 1.5" connections on it on that bottom valve too. It is handy for sanitizing. I put the 2" drain outlet into my pump and the output of my pump into the CIP ball and let it run for a few minutes.

I just tried squeezing it tighter in a few places around the lid. It seems like it may help, but of course the lid and gasket are dry now so it's hard to say if it actually did anything.

    Thanks for talking me down.

Has anybody tried pinching the gasket in place by bending the lip on the lid?

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

I finally got around to starting a batch in my new CF15. It's probably a good thing they won't accept returns for used items because this goddamn POS lid gasket makes me so mad I'd probably send the whole damn thing back. Yes it is installed the correct direction. That doesn't really matter...

    Bray's One Month Mead

I back sweetened with more of the orange blossom honey after it was done. I put 2 or 3 tablespoons or so of honey into each bottle during bottling rather than trying to sweeten the entire batch at once and having to dissolve all the honey before knowing if it was sweet enough. My starting...

    Bray's One Month Mead

I shared a bottle of my first BOMM (orange blossom, sweet) yesterday. It has changed a lot since I started it back in May last year (bottled in June). It is pretty damn tasty and so far everybody that likes sweet wines has enjoyed it. We also tried a bottle of my blueberry which was really...

    Bray's One Month Mead

So I've made a few gallons of BOMM so far. I'm curious how well these age. After one month they taste a lot like beer to me rather than any mead I've ever bought at a store. Will this change if I let them age for 6-12 months?

    Banana Wine

I've never made this before so I'm not really an expert. You could always freeze the bananas until you get back.

    Banana Wine

I'd go for it. I moved mine after 8 days in the bucket. There's still quite a bit of banana chunks that made it into the carboy and it's still fermenting so I think you'd be fine.

    Bray's One Month Mead

I stopped at the store to order some more 1388 yesterday and they actually had it in stock. They decided to start carrying it after "multiple customer requests".. I have a feeling that was just me ordering it several times from different employees but I'm not going to complain. :)

    Banana Wine

    let the waiting begin!

    Banana Wine

Oh I plan to. I bought another 3 gallon carboy just for this since it's going to be a long wait.

    Banana Wine

This turned out to be 16lbs of bananas Chopped up one gallon worth at a time (16 small bananas) Cooking So nasty looking! After a few days..

    Mango Pulp Wine

I agree. The last bottle I drank was way better than the previous one a couple months prior. Of course I find that out when I only have like 1 bottle left. :D I think I'm going to let this whole batch age a lot longer before I drink any.

    Banana Wine

I just got a box of brown bananas from work that were going to be thrown away.. I think I probably have enough for a 2 or 3 gallon batch of this. Wish me luck!

    Bray's One Month Mead

My local honey store has some raspberry honey now so I'm thinking about starting another gallon or two. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with all of this lol. I'm making lots of fruit wine too.

    Mango Pulp Wine

I ended up with 8 bottles from my original 3 gallons. I'll see how it turned out in a few months. I think it's better than my first batch. This one fermented and cleared up really fast.
