    Blichmann patent on RIMS

Hey HBT. I'd like to get a read and your opinions on a patent recently awarded to John Blichmann for a two vessel RIMS system: Link to patent number 8,993,273 on uspto.gov Now obviously this is related to his BrewEasy system. When BrewEasy was first announced, I had an exchange with John...

    The Untappd Kegerator

Need to do some better lighted pics for the final project writeup, but here's my finished Untappd enhanced kegerator. How it works: An interrupt routine on the Arduino calculates the RPM of flow meters installed in the tap beer lines. Once it notices a tap flowing, it performs a beer...

    Where's my sour?

It's the weirdest thing. I've never had an issue before, but this batch of flanders red was my 1st time in oak. Brewed in late sept 2011; primary fermentation with a standard english ale yeast. Racked to barrel and inoculated with Wyeast 5112 and 5335, as well as some assorted Russian River...

Brew Dog Hardcore IPA .vs. BYO recipe

Another clone, this time Scotland's Brew Dog Hardcore IPA. Recipe was published in BYO from Brew Dog themselves. That said, clearly, the clone is darker; in fact I call shenanigans as there's no way they're getting 100% Maris Otter to come out that light. The "real thing" was very badly...

    Pliny The Younger!

Had the fine privilege of enjoying this nectar at the Falling Rock Taphouse this evening where 15 gallons disappeared in about 30 minutes. Pliny the Elder is my all-time favorite beer. It's always in the fridge. I make a point of visiting Santa Rosa every time I make it to CA. In other words...

    Scotch. Gimme your faves

Yes, I know there's a couple other Scotch / single malt discussions, but I hate resurrecting old threads. My liquor cabinet is frighteningly low so I'm going Scotch hunting this weekend. Any recent great finds? I'm partial to Highlands, but will consider a Lowland or even a gently peaty...

1.086 to 1.014 in 10 days at 60 deg on my Brew Dog Hardcore IPA clone. That's 84% attenuation! Damn I love this yeast.

AHS Pliny vs. the real thing

Austin Homebrew Supplies Pliny the Elder versus a bottle of the real deal from Russian River. Initial impression is AHS is damn close with this recipe. Color is just a touch darker, but in full disclosure, I padded the AHS 5 gallon recipe to 6 with some extra light DME (so I could brew two 3...

    Fruit Beer Razzy Wheat

Yeah, yeah, another raspberry wheat. I'm not a big fruit beer fan, but an occasional raspberry wheat is my one weakness. I've probably done a dozen variants of this recipe, but on a lark I added flaked rye instead of oats this time and HOLY MOLY - it really makes this recipe pop. Pilsener...

    Brewcast tomorrow morning (9/27/09)!

I'm bottling the 1st half of my AHB Pliny kit today so it's time to brew the 2nd half so I can pitch the freshly washed yeasties. If you'd like to see my Countertop Brutus 20 in action, here's your chance! I'm gonna try to do this brewcast "cooking show" style, streaming from my Googlephone...

    Hair-brained sour plan

So, I've got 3 gallons of a Belgian Strong Dark, all bottled, that I'm not terribly happy with. I'm seriously considering purging a Better Bottle with CO2, pouring the bottles back in and pitching a pack of bugs. Any of you lambic experts see a problem with this? Any suggestions?

    Countertop Brutus 20

OK, so my pic generated a number of requests for a detailed write up of my little system so here it goes... What is a Brutus 20? In a nutshell, it's a no-sparge, constant recirculation direct fired mash system. Lonnie Mac, the creator, has since taken his Brutus 20 page down for some reason...
