    Pitching dregs into secondary

Ah, ok. Is that half a yeast packet per demijohn or between the two? Should I prime with sugar as well?

    Pitching dregs into secondary

Two years after I posted on this thread and the Mrs has ordered me to bottle the two DJs that have been sitting in the dining/conditioning room. To be honest, I have been lazy and I am too scared to bottle, this is my first time souring beer. My questions are: how do I get the pellicle to drop...

first yeast rinse (botched) - do I have enough?

Thanks for the link. I have seen that post before, its finally making sense now! I think I have figured it out. I estimate that there are 2 billion cells per ml (1 month old), in 44ml (largest jar, 80% viability) which should be enough for a 1.055 OG beer when using a 1.5litre starter.

first yeast rinse (botched) - do I have enough?

I am new to harvesting yeast. After buying some yeast bay vermont I am looking to re-use some which I have rinsed and kept in the fridge for 1 month. I'm pretty sure my process was sanitary, but I ended up with a lot less yeast than I anticipated (I dicked it up, I know what I did wrong). Please...

1.045 OG pitching rate - starter or no starter

Thanks for the advice. I'm brewing an extra pale citra. I read under pitching is better than over, plus it may produce more yeast flavour. Will do a 1 day starter and pitch all of it.

1.045 OG pitching rate - starter or no starter

Brew day is soon and I was wondering if I should pitch a vial of yeast bay vermont (best before 22 July) into 20 litres of 1.045 wort or doing a starter 1 day before. Brewer's friend yeast calculator says I will be lacking 84billion cells without a starter, but I prefer to under pitch. Doing a 1...

    Pitching dregs into secondary

How long should it take to get some sourness when pitching dregs? I pitched one Orval into one demijohn and one 3 Fonteinen oude geuze into another 2 months ago. There has been slow airlock activity (orval has stopped, the other still going with pellicle) yet there is no sourness. My orval dreg...

    Pitching dregs into secondary

thanks for the quick reply guys! I have dumped Orval dregs into one DJ, 3F in another, some of my Saison dregs (WLP565) into another (not sure why, was drunk), leaving one plain.

    Pitching dregs into secondary

I have pitched some Orval dregs (straight from bottle) into one of four secondary demijohns of my 'Belgian Special' (8.5 ABV using Whitelabs WLP550), and can't see any activity in the airlock. I also have a bottle of 3 Fonteinen oude geuze and was going to pitch the dregs into another DJ. Should...
