    Kegging while still fermenting?

OK, I have a family trip coming up and started a batch similar to skeeterpee (http://www.skeeterpee.com). The short version is basically sugar, lemon juice, and wine yeast. I started this 6 weeks ago thinking it would be fine by now...but it has been REALLY slow at fermenting. I am still...

    Longevity of iodine solution

I have been using iodine solution as a rinse free sanitizer for several years now. I end up wasting about 5 gallons of water and 2 tbls of iodine every week when I brew. In the end, if I take that 5 gal of solution and dump it in a keg, will it still be good a few weeks later? Do I need to...

Issue with my new AG setup

hmm, kinda makes sense. I'll give it a try. Thanks! Anything else I should consider?

Issue with my new AG setup

I appreciate it, I am usually the guy that will forget to plug the computer in and think it is toast. I do prime the pump and leave the valves all the way open during operation. Like I said, I get a great flow for a minute or two then it trickles down to nothing.

Issue with my new AG setup

I finally got off my butt and got back into brewing. As a reward, I finally made my recirculating mash tun. This is not my first attempt at all grain brewing but is a huge upgrade from previous version. I have done 3 batches with this setup now, they all taste great but I am having...

    Nothing but foam

    1. I thought I put that in there, I guess not. On the RB, I have 20' of 1/4". It's all inside the kegerator. 2. I will check, I but I don't think so as the kegerator is set to 44*. I'll check it this afternoon.

    Nothing but foam

I have a batch of root beer that has been doing fine until last night. I am getting all foam out of the keg and through the whole line resulting in a glass of foam. When making it, I used 4 gal water, 4ish lbs of sugar, then pitched yeast. After a week, I tapped the keg and regulated it to...

    Child-proofing a kegerator

Yeah, your probably right...I have been thinking though, and what about a valve for a fridge ice machine. Thought?

    Child-proofing a kegerator

Do you guys really think it's that important to have NSF rated solenoids? Those things are expensive.

    Child-proofing a kegerator

Yeah, I need to find one...all I have been able to get a hold of a small bucket of disposable stuff from H-D. I used to have bags of the kitty litter stuff, but don't know what happened to it.

    Child-proofing a kegerator

My kegerator is built as a nice piece of furniture that we have on display. The tap locks and plexi cage would work effectively, but I don't want the outside to change at all. Thus the RFID. Not only because I am lazy, but I live in FL and every time I open the lid it lets more humidity in...

    Child-proofing a kegerator

That looks really cool, and doesn't look too hard either. What I am thinking about doing is a little overkill, but that is WAY more than I am going to get into right now. Very cool/fun theory though.

    Child-proofing a kegerator

Thank you. Many of these solenoids are very expensive...especially for the nsf rated ones. I am going to start with the plastic ones on ebay and see how that works. I also found an rfid controller that works within 3 ft. I think this project is going to be the ebay special. We'll see how it...

    Child-proofing a kegerator

The mechanics are actually really simple. RFID opens a solenoid that is located on the beer line right before the tap. Thanks for that link. That might just work. My taps are about 3 ft off the floor. I used a deep freezer with the wood collar technique, so they are out front. There is no...

    Child-proofing a kegerator

I was thinking more in the terms of a 3 year old that is going to pull the handles to see what happens. I also have 5 taps which means up to 25 gallons of amazing deliciousness all over my floor. I am also way too lazy to plug/unplug my out fittings every time I get a beer. The cool factor is...

    Child-proofing a kegerator

I have a kid coming and want to get ahead of the curve while I am thinking about it. I have a 5-tap kegerator that will need childproofing. I have the idea of using powered solenoids on the supply line for each tap powered by RFID that can be stored somewhere else (maybe on my keychain) or...

Making a kegerator, how to finish the wood?

I am rebuilding the collar for my freezer kegerator. I used douglas fir for the wood and it's already stained. I am trying to figure out what to use to finish it. Last time I used 13 coats of Minwax fast drying polyurethane or the polycrylic (I can't remember). After a year, the shine had...

    Want real rootbeer

I have been brewing beers for several years now, but I got a hold of some great root beer in the store. I have an open tap and want some real root beer. I have been finding tons of recipes with just table sugar and RB extract. I would prefer to make it in more of a traditional fashion. Does...

    over sanitized with iodophor?

Oh yeah, and I have determined that nothing is happening because the airlock hasn't released a bubble yet that I have seen.
