    What are you drinking now?

yesterday was my first time having a "blonde stout" or whatever people like to call it. I've heard of them before, but never had a chance to taste it. A great local brewery, BeerLab HI, brewed up a batch called Jedi Mind Trick. This beer was light as a blonde ale, body of a stout (nitro), and...

Need help breaking down what's going wrong with my IPAs

I had similar problems, biggest thing that helped is starting with RO water. Also, I personally would up the hops, that looks to be about 9 oz for your 5.5 gal. I use 8 oz for my 3 gallon batches. Good luck!

What was your Gatewaybeer to craft beer?

Deschutes Mirror Pond. A Deschutes tin tacker hangs in my man cave because it got me started into craft brew and eventually into this hobby.

    Edit: Sorry double post

    First brew with RO water

I will be buying mine every time I brew. And the reason I made the switch to RO when I did was that the local CVS store recently brought in a RO machine. $.50 a gallon was a great price too.

    First brew with RO water

I just sampled my first brew using RO water (with gypsum), and what a difference water makes. I brew mostly IPAs in BIAB, and all my previous brews just were just meh, no real hop flavors or aromas, not matter how much more hops i kept adding, or played around with the hop schedules. They also...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Finally brewed again after a 6 month layoff, my last couple brews have been crappy, and needed a break or possibly just stop. but decided to try again and brew with RO water and additions instead of my tap water, hoping this makes the difference!

cryo hops/lupulin powder dry hopping question

The last IPA I made had a similar grain bill, but a slightly different hop schedule. I forget the exact hops off the top of my head, but I did a 1oz. (60 min), 2 oz. (5 min), 2 oz. (flameout), and one 2 oz. dry hop. As i recall it had more hoppiness when bottling than this one, but even then i...

cryo hops/lupulin powder dry hopping question

I bottled my IPA brewed with cryo hops and honestly it's not that hoppy, or at least as hoppy as I was hoping. I don't expect it to get hoppier after carbing up and conditioning. Just wanted to share my experience since i commented earlier in this thread. This was a 3-gallon batch, I went...

cryo hops/lupulin powder dry hopping question

I have an IPA in the fermenter, just waiting to dry hop with cryo hops, 1 oz. simcoe and 1 oz. ekuanot. I already did 1 oz. of cascade cryo hops at flameout. I did bitter with regular Magnum pellets instead of cryo hops.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewed a IPA, first time using cryo hops. Used in the whirlpool and will be dry hopping with it.

    All Grain

I am in indoor brewer (and I live in Hawaii! I know that's a sin), and when I went all grain (biab w/ a cooler), I pretty much stopped doing 5 gallon batches, as I couldn't get a really good rolling boil going on that much boil volume. I just decided to do smaller batches, like 3-4 gallon...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Well after a year break, I finally brewed this past Sunday. Partial mash IPA, it's been way too long, and it felt good to be back brewing again. Now if this life thing could just stop getting in the way.....

Session IPA vs. Hoppy Pale Ale

My favorite session IPAs are Stone Go To and Golden Road Wolf Pup, and for hoppy pale ales it would be Lagunitas 12th of Never. to me, they are the same kind of beer

    Biab in a regular cooler

I use a 10 gal round cooler with no sparge, just squeeze.

    Visiting Portland, OR

thanks for the recommendations, I would love to visit all these places, but I got my wife and two daughters with me, so kids activities are the majority of our trip. I love the HUB IPA, but going there more because its family friendly. I'm looking forward to this trip!
