box wine style packaging for still apfelwein

The Wine on Tap by Fermtech is also available at Homebrewheaven.com but a little cheaper (but you gotta look at shipping costs for true comparison). I've never tried these but I think it would be great for hard lemonade, Apfelwein etc... Terry

Oh, another thought. I haven't tried it but I bet Goof Off would get the real hard ones off! That could be expensive though. Terry

Apfelwien brewing - thinking of adding blueberries to next batch

CORRECTION! I just went and checked. I actually started it 10 days ago and it's still bubbling. Still about one bubble every 30 seconds. It no longer smells.... Terry

Apfelwien brewing - thinking of adding blueberries to next batch

I just started a batch of Apfelwein. I made it exactly per recipe except I used a primary bucket fermenter. I started it about two weeks ago and the bubbling has finally ceased. I used Motts apple juice from Walmart at $3.88 a gallon. All told, about $23. for the batch. I'll move it to a...

    Free bottles and Lable removal...

I use inexpensive ammonia. Less than a dollar a bottle. I put about 1/2 cup in a small plastic bag sitting in a plastic bowl/bucket. Lay the bottle in the ammonia label side down and it falls off in about 15 minutes. No scrubbing required. Another method is to dillute a cup or two of ammonia in...

Candy cane wine - fermentation slooooow

RE: hydrometer: I think it's 1.130. That makes a lot more sense. This thing is hard to read. That being the case, this hooch could possibly go up to 17.5% alc potential.

    Jalepeno wine

Oh I've had those. I didn't know they were called atomic buffalo turds. I like them a lot. RE: Habenero wine... I was tempted to try that because I like hot but jalepeno's have a better flavor in my opinion. Perhaps a blend.....

Candy cane wine - fermentation slooooow

How do you follow a recipe "exactly" that says 60 regular sized candy canes?? What size is "regular?" Also, the guy who wrote the recipe said he would use more candy canes next time. He didn't mention why.... (besides the big ol' candy canes were cheap at the dollar store). I'm wondering if...

    Jalepeno wine

Ha! I always keep jalepenos in the fridge. I eat them with almost everything. What are atomic buffalo turds? After making this wine, the smell almost made me not like jalepenos anymore but I got over it.

I'm an extract beer brewer, what do I need to make wine?

I started out with an inexpensive kit - Vinter's Reserve. I think this is a good way to start because you will probably be successful and you can drink it after a short period of time. I think they taste very good. You need to follow the instructions to the tee however. Don't take any shortcuts...

    Jalepeno wine

Actually that's what I made it for - to cook with. The person that wrote the recipe said it was a also good "sipping wine". Time will tell....

    Jalepeno wine

I made a small batch of Jalepeno wine in August 2008 (bottled in October). It smelled awful ... and mean AWFUL! when I bottled it. I've got 10 350ml bottles and waiting for the right time to try it. Has anyone on the list made Jalepeno wine? If so, how long did you age it before you tried it...

OK. I'll report back. Right now it keeps bubbling but only about one bubble every two minute. All three bottles are bubbling. Thanks everybody.

Candy cane wine - fermentation slooooow

Thanks for the replies. Perhaps my first reading was false but it was really high. I suppose this kind of wine should be sweet, I don't know. The recipe didn't have to much detail as what to expect. There's a lot of layering of sediment in the bottles now and when it settles out completely I'll...

Candy cane wine - fermentation slooooow

David, Thanks for the reply. I think it's the candy canes. They are about 1.5 inch in diameter and about a foot long. I used 10 of them. I'm sure they're pure sugar with peppermint flavoring. Thanks

Sooo you know how too much of a good thing is bad? Well its true with vodka too!

I too read somewhere about topping off with dilluted vodka 50/50 and that it wouldn't affect the taste. I guess I won't do that. Thanks for the advice.

Candy cane wine - fermentation slooooow

Hi, This is my first post. I've been making beer for a few years and have recently been making wines. I have a batch of candy cane wine fermenting now. I got the recipe from a winemaking magazine. Fermentation has been real slow but it continues to ferment. Does anyone have any ideas on what I...
