How many of you guys with an eBIAB setup let the bag touch the element?

Sorry, NewJersey... I should clarify... I do set it a Mash Temp and let the PID maintain it but I also set the Power to 25% during the Mash. Even though the Boil Coil is ULWD this keeps the element from getting too hot as it works to maintain my set Mash Temp. This setting causes the element to...

How many of you guys with an eBIAB setup let the bag touch the element?

I have a 15-gallon kettle from SsBrewtech and I installed a Blichmann Boil Coil in it. I use the Blichmann Brew Commander to controll it and I recirculate my mash. I set the output of my heating element to 25% and let my Brew Bag rest on the coils. I've brewed about 40 batches with this setup...

Texas SOLD: Grainfather Conical Fermenter ($400)

I purchased this fermenter about 6 months ago to use for kveik strains and controlled fermentations in the 85-95F range. The built-in heater works really well on the unit. I also purchased the CO2 Transfer Kit. I recently rejiggered my entire fermentation setup and no longer have a need for...

    Texas SOLD: Upgraded Spike Flex+

I purchased this fermenter about a year and a half ago and have used it for approximately 25 batches. I also purchased the TC Sample Valve and Gas Manifold/Pressure Transfer Kit. I recently pulled the trigger on two smaller refrigerators (instead of the single standard-sized one I've been...

Thoughts on Carb Stone Install in Ss Brew Bucket for Oxygenation

I am toying with the notion of using a hole saw to add carb stones to my 7-gallon Brew Buckets so that I can ditch my oxygenation wand. My current process involves oxygenating before placing the fermenters in their fermentation fridges which means lifting full fermenters into fridges which is...

Can you Brew It recipe for Stone Arrogant Bastard

Thanks for pointing that out. I had those in my initial notes but somehow missed adding them here. The quality of the hop aroma and flavor are nearly indistinguishable with Arrogant Bastard having a slightly brighter and more intense character.

Can you Brew It recipe for Stone Arrogant Bastard

I recently brewed an homage to Arrogant Bastard with a few tweaks and I'm really pleased with how it turned out. I use an EBIAB system. Fargin' Bastage Size: 6.25 gal Efficiency: 68.0% Attenuation: 78.1% Original Gravity: 1.073 Terminal Gravity: 1.016 Color: 25.38 SRM (Morey) Alcohol: 7.51%...

Saving yeast at the starter stage (?)

Yet another here who frequently does this. If you want to be precise with how much you harvest, there's a tool that makes this really easy. http://www.brewunited.com/yeast_calculator.php# Set the number of cells you wish to harvest in the Overbuild Cell Count field (I typically do 100 Billion)...

Belgian Ardennes 3522 - Speed of ferment?

I know this is an old thread but ever since I got a couple of Tilt Hydrometers, I am finding that most of my beers, even up to 1.100, are hitting their FG in 3-5 days. 1.050 and less are there in as little as 48 hours after pitching. I always pitch healthy, appropriately sized, starters, add...

Texas Ss Brewtech eController | 1V - SOLD

I bought this new (direct from Ss Brewtech) in the spring of 2019 while waiting on them to release their long overdue Single Vessel Brewing System. I used it several times with my first E-BIAB system and it performed flawlessly but I have decided to go ahead and go with a different system...

Show Me Your Wood Brew Sculpture/Rig

Things have evolved quite a bit since my original post in this thread, back in 2010. Still using the frame but it's been cut down and modified several times, most recently to accommodate a single-vessel E-BIAB system.

    Mash and Lauter Simulator Available

Doug, Thanks so much for the time you put into this awesome simulator and for sharing the fruits of your labor with the HBT community! I have a couple of questions for you... 1. In the Analysis section, in a BIAB system, would "Total Weight of Remaining Mash" be the weight of the spent grain...

    Hazy IPAs, Why?

rodwha, Looks like you live in the Austin area. If so, Pinthouse Pizza brews quite a few excellent NEIPAs (Electric Jellyfish and Hazed & Confused are two that come to mind) and they’ll be fresh as can be if you swing in either location.
