    Soft water & fermentation

I have obnoxiously hard water at home and usually dilute it with 65% distilled. My two previous batches have had violent fermentations for two days - blowing the tops off the plastic pails and coating my fermentation chamber with krausen. For my latest batch, I used 50% Poland Spring, 50%...

    Gelatin in keg?

Have a most excellent galaxy IPA on gas getting ready to serve. Said IPA was kegged without any fining agents and first pour is a but murky. LHBS announces a brewing contest. Can I hit the keg with gelatin to clear it up?

    Boom x3

Plastic pail with "S" airlock has now popped the lid 3x after the first day of fermentation. Using big starter of 1272+ O2 in 1.060 @ 62F. Never had this problem before. Anyone else need a blow-off tube in a pail?

    AA of homegrown hops?

So My second year Centennials got crushed by a week of 90° weather and I was only able to harvest about 2 oz. of dried cones. I used 1 oz of CTZ for bittering, 1 oz. of home grown at 15 minutes and 1 oz at flame out. I plugged in 8% AA for a guesstimate - sound reasonable?

    Muslin for hopsock?

After I clogged up my voile bags as hopsocks, I bought 10 cheap muslin bags on Amazon as throwaway hopsocks. The bags are the type typically used for specialty grains in extract kits. Has anyone else done this?

    Lupulin tolerance

Just back from my local BBQ joint where 30 taps take center stage. Had a flight of the hoppiest IBUeist beers available and while they were mighty tasty - none was perceived as bitter. Came home to a DFH 60 and it might as well have been Bud Light. Am I doomed to 100+ IBU land forever?

    Kegging / Kegerator advise

Floated the idea of putting a kegerator in the dining room to SWMBO. I explained that we would no longer have bottles all over the place. Surprisingly she was all for it even after I explained how much a system could cost. So... I need an aesthetically pleasing (SS?) 2-tap kegerator...

    Crystal 20, 40, 80 120 Substitutions

So I have a pound of Special B which, I'm told is roughly equivalent to Crystal 120. If I want to brew a recipe that calls for a pound of Crystal 20, can I substitute less Special B? What if I have a pound of C40? Thoughts?

Pitching onto yeast cake after gelatin

I have an Ale brewed with WLP002 ready to bottle this weekend. I usually brew & bottle the same day and like to pitch onto the old yeast cake. I wanted to try fining with gelatin for the current batch. Will I still be able to pitch on the old yeast?
