    American IPA Blood Moon IPA

I googled this topic and found some hints of why dryhopping in secondary (or at least after the active phase of primary fermentation is over). Firstly, dry hopping will be less efficient during krausen. Krausen is a sign lots of CO2 being produced and bubbling out of the beer. If CO2 is...

    Cold crash

You don't need to scrub the trub. There will be enough yeast in the beer to carbonize beer in the bottle or keg.

    Cold crash

I brewed robust porter 2 weeks ago as my first extract batch. Kept it in primary fermenter for 5 days @ 72F (I know, I should have lowered the temp to mid 60s), then 10 days at secondary @ 66-68F, and now finally moved to fridge to cold crash for about a week @ 35-38F before bottling. From...

Measured OG significantly higher than expected

Assembled a poor man's swamp cooler and installed blow-off hose as krausen was at the top already. Yeast is swirling like crazy :)

Measured OG significantly higher than expected

Hmm, that's entirely possible. I did not mix the wort in fermenter after adding water and before drawing sample of hydrometer. Thanks for the advice. I will try to find a cooler place, although it might be not possible.

Measured OG significantly higher than expected

Hi folks! I was brewing a porter today for my first recipe (details below), and measured OG (1.072) seems to be much higher than the expected OG (1.054) specified in recipe. Am I doing something terribly wrong? This is my first brew ever, no kidding, and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with...
