    Tips for Russian Imperial Stout

Definitely go with a big blow-off tube. My RIS experiment sprayed all over my kitchen ceiling. It looked like I'd been digging for oil, and hit the jackpot.

Kid sneezes in mash, news in 2-3 weeks...

pre-boil = don't worry. I may not be as lucky as you. I was brewing Saturday and dropped a screwdriver into the wort while connecting my chiller. I'm hoping that it was still hot enough to avoid contamination. We will see.

First AG last night - few notes to other first timers

Most cooler hinges are held on with screws. Just take out the screws and you can remove the lid when you need to.

Way, way, way over the top Sam Adams Utopia clone

They have the Loose Cannon at Jake's on moody st in Waltham sometimes, along with BBC, Stone and Dogfish beers. It's not the best beer bar, but it does the job.

low on gravity, how much extract to fix?

good to know. combination of 6 instead of 10 gallon, and higher gravity than usual resulted in some problems. In hindsight I should have just used some extract instead of so mush 2 row. -newlander

low on gravity, how much extract to fix?

Hey Y'all, Brewing a RIS today, and got horrible efficiency. About 55%. I want to boost the gravity from 1.70 to 1.09. how much dry malt extract would it take to do that? I'm a bit worked up right now and am having some trouble putting together a plan. Any help would be appreciated...

    Burlington and Montreal...

Another vote for the Three Needs. They had a pretty good Kolsch the time I was there. Great music selection as well.

    Oak barrel with no hole

I was recently given a five gallon oak barrel as a gift, but it has no bung-hole. Looking around I can't find any references to having to drill your own hole, and the only ones I can find with no hole are decorative (not water-tight). I'm not sure where it was bought, but it was probably in...

ready to drink in twenty days?

Thanks again everyone. I was brewing for a wedding, and was able to get the hefe and pale on tap in time. Sorry that I abandoned the thread, but I had a honey moon to concentrate on. It's not that I don't love you, I'm just not IN love with you. I was just trying to let everyone know my...

ready to drink in twenty days?

I couldn't decide on which one to go with so I'm gonna do a double brew this weekend. Both the Haus Pale Ale and DeathBrewer's hefe. That way I can keep drinking off the tap and still have plenty for the end of the month. Thanks again to everyone that responded. -Newlander

ready to drink in twenty days?

I'd have to see what they have on tap. Do you know if they've done that in the past?

ready to drink in twenty days?

Thanks for all the prompt replies! I actually have 3/4 of a keg of the Centennial Blonde that I've been trying to lay off of, hoping that it'll make it to the end of the month. Anyone have a preferred hefe recipe? I've never made one, but it's always fun to try something new. Thanks...

ready to drink in twenty days?

Hey everybody, Procrastination has gotten the best of me. I have an event at the end of the month that I was planning to supply beer for, but haven't exactly gotten around to brewing it. Does anybody have a tried and true all grain ale recipe that can go from kettle to cup in 20 days? I keg...
