By conditioning it now do you mean secondary? You don't need to do that. Put it in the bottles and store in a cool dark place and it will bottle condition for as long as you like. It takes about 3 months or so for that hot alcohol taste to start going down. What was your ABV?

I just checked ratebeer and 365 people gave it a total of 56/100. I'd say that's a hug fail for any brewery let alone DFH.

I haven't brewed the extract version but as long as you have nice fresh liquid or dry malt I think it would come out ok. The problem I had with extract is that I always finished at about 1.020 so your beer might be a little sweeter and have less alcohol but to be honest the abv is pretty high...
