    Looking for Surly Darkness?

I tried the elusive Surly Darkness on 4th of July. Thankfully I didn't purchase it. I must say the bottle design is the best thing about this beer. Not sure how it got on the ratebeer top 50. I drank the 2011 one so maybe it needed to age more but it was like drinking sugar. Maybe some of...

Belgian Dark Strong Ale The Pious - Westvleteren 12 style quad - multiple

Thanks for the recipe Saq. I searched high and low for a good Ommegang Three Philosophers clone and didn't come up with anything. I figured I needed a really good quad as a base and ran into this recipe. I added 48 ounces of Vintners Sweet Cherry Puree after about 5 days of fermentation. Its...

Just tried Bell's Two Hearted Ale...

So now its almost 3 years after my original post. I've had tons of IPA's since then. 2 hearted doesn't even crack the top ten. These are in no particular order but are definitely better than 2 hearted any day. AleSmith Ballast Point Sculpin Russian River Blind Pig Cigar City Humidor...

Clone Beer Dog Fish Head - Midas Touch

By conditioning it now do you mean secondary? You don't need to do that. Put it in the bottles and store in a cool dark place and it will bottle condition for as long as you like. It takes about 3 months or so for that hot alcohol taste to start going down. What was your ABV?

    Trouble Lighting Bayou Classic SP10

Case solved - bad regulator. I'm going to give a shout out to the company for excellent customer service. http://www.webstaurantstore.com/ I sent them an e-mail and told them I tried to light it about 10 times on 2 separate occasions. It's been several months since I ordered the burner and...

    Who got some hopslam?

Checked with a distributor last weekend in PA and they got 2 cases in and they were gone the same day. Its definitely a great beer but to travel out of state is a bit much unless I was going there anyway. I think they limit each distributor to 2 cases which I guess is fair so they can...

    Who got some hopslam?

I can't get it in NJ but willing to drive to PA to get some. I just need to come up with an excuse to take the whole family to PA and then accidentally stop at a distributor.

    Jai Alai Cedar Aged IPA

Nice..I wonder where he gets them from? Are spirals specifically made for brewing or do they have any other purpose?

    American IPA Hopslam Clone

Thanks for this post schweaty. I brewed this up about 6 weeks ago and just served it at my sons birthday party on Saturday. It was a huge hit. People commented on the nice grapefruit taste and the great hop flavor. It was nice and dry but there was a slight sweetness from the honey malt...

Dogfish Head's Faithful Ale (pearl jam 20th year brew)

I just checked ratebeer and 365 people gave it a total of 56/100. I'd say that's a hug fail for any brewery let alone DFH.

    Guillotine IPA (Terrapin's Hopsecutioner Clone)

I haven't brewed the extract version but as long as you have nice fresh liquid or dry malt I think it would come out ok. The problem I had with extract is that I always finished at about 1.020 so your beer might be a little sweeter and have less alcohol but to be honest the abv is pretty high...

    Trouble Lighting Bayou Classic SP10

OK so either I'm losing my mind or I was too damn tired for brewing this Sunday. I was all excited to use my new SP10 and I couldn't get the damn thing lighted! I eventually switched back to my old burner so I know the propane tank was ok. I tried opening the propane tank, then opening the...

    Brooklyn Sorachi Ace IBUs?

I'm making up a recipe right now that I hope to brew in a few weeks. I will post it as soon as its done. I bought it the other day and noticed it is 7.5% abv but I was going to brew mine to 6-6.5%abv so its a little more drinkable. I paid $12 for a bomber of this so hopefully if I can make a...

    Radio Talk Show Hosts Gone

I'm pretty sure that is what he is talking about because I thought the same thing. When I moved to NJ 7 years ago it was the Carton and Rossi show. That show was really good. I mean Ray was the straight and Carton was the comic and he was really funny. His personality is what made the show...
