    S'mores Mead

Hello all, sometime in the next week I plan on starting a S'mores mead for tasting next summer. My basic plan is to ferment your very basic 3 lbs of honey with water to a gallon down to dryness using Fermaid K and a Montrachet yeast. Then I will add cocoa nibs to secondary for a month or two...

Does the yeast matter when brewing a cyser?

Snowed in here in the northeast today and was planning on starting a cyser today. I was going to get some D47 from the brew shop to start this simple first attempt. So I am stuck at home and the only non baker's yeast I have is 71B. Any issues to look out for using this in cyser?

Best way to prevent melomel oxidation?

So we all know that melomels can oxidize when exposed to too much oxygen. I have a couple that are in their second racking so there is a decent amount of head space in the carboy. Is there an accepted way to prevent oxidation? Fill the space with glass marbles? A campden every racking...

    Plastic smell/taste

Back to trouble shooting. Five days ago I started a blackberry melomel. It had a hint of a plastic smell at must creation but no plastic taste at the time so I figured I'd let it start and see what happens. Ingredients used: 3.5 lbs of Orange Blossom honey 1 US gallon of spring...

Long story short, my friends love my JAOM and I am going to make them a melomel using their favorite fruits. I am considering doing a three gallon recipe using 9-12 pounds of honey, 4 pounds of peaches and 3 pounds of nectarines. My question is that they love dry wines so I am planning on...

    Raspberry Melomel

So this weekend I am going to start a one gallon batch of a raspberry melomel and just wanted people's opinions on a couple topics. 1) For those of you that have done batches of melomels, do you prefer to use a campden tablet to kill the natural yeasts in the fruit or not? 2) Also, when...

    JAOM - Air Lock Issue

So I decided to make an attempt at JOAM today and when I started fermenting both chambers of my airlock were at the max line and were equal. Five hours later the liquid is completely gone from one chamber and the other is twice as high: YouTube video of problem Is this normal? Has anyone...

    Haier Mini-Fridge to Kegerator

Hey all, I am new to this forum and eventually want to get into micro brewing but right now I just want to build a kegerator. I have a Haier 2.7 (or 3.2, I will look for the box or users manual tomorrow) cubic foot mini fridge which should be big enough to store a quarter barrel keg and CO2...
