    hop removal from secondary

    do i need to prepare the steel wool in any way? It smells like steel wool, will that transfer into my beer? Can i use a green sos pad that doesn't have soap in it? I am doing it tomorrow morning and would appreciate any input.

    Need help on mashing out

    I mash in an igloo cooler and have never mashed out before but now understand the benefits. How much 200 degree water is needed to bring 3 gallons of 152 degrees water up to 167? Thanks for anyone that has a formula.

    Why does my starter never have krausen foam?

    I am pitching liquid yeast into 1 pint of 1.040 starter wort and it bubbles a little and works fine when i pitch it. I see pictures of starters that have and inch of foam on top of them and i was just wondering what i was doing wrong if anything. I aerate it by shaking it by the way.

    trub removal problems

    whirlpooling has never worked for me like that. I have stirred and had the liquid all the way up the sides of the brewkettle but it didn't settle into the center like in the picture.
