Home Brewers in the Hurricane Zone

So glad I homebrew cause I was able to reincarnate my kegerator back to it's original purpose....Freezer! D.C'd the controller and dragged it in from the porch. Loaded up on ice 4 or 5 days out and sitting pretty when the electricity goes down. Filled the empty kegs with tap water (what's the...

Lessons From My First Public Homebrew Competition

Wow Mr.V !!! You're awesome. For a little more than a year in the craft you sure go about things in a big way. I've got to wonder what you do for a living, you must be very successful at it giving your attention to detail and passion. You know it's only going to get better and better. Thanks for...

Samuel Smiths Organic Chocolate stout clone request

Kinda contrary to the whole craft beer fellowship of sharing. What is Samuel Smith afraid of? Making the style more popular? Screw them.

    Men who sit to pee

You definitely eliminate better by standing up. I learned this from passing kidney stones. Don't know what the long term implications are, but that's why God gave us hose. Don't mess with nature. http://cdn.homebrewtalk.com/images/smilies/n045.gif

Guide to set internal chest freezer thermostat to >32F; Eliminate external control

How do you go about removing the cover from the front of the freezer? Jammed a couple of screw drivers in the edge but I'm afraid it's gonna bust before it comes loose. Is there a trick to it?

White Whales and Founders KBS Dethroned?

@bigdaddybrew You're right. Now we know a little bit more about what's out there without having to do all the work! Win Win, not to mention all the expense. Kudo's to you Raymond. There's probably even some clone recipes that we can now jump on. Think positive my brothers!

    worried about my wort/ferment

Thanks for the calming Gavin. The slurry came from a similar beer. It's funny because in the Hydro. tube it really separated out but in the fermenter it's just a solid mass of the same thick looking beer. Do you think in time it will just drop out and clear a bit?

    worried about my wort/ferment

Is it still called wort in the fermenter? First the concern, then how I got here. Pretty new at it only 14 batches but never had this happen before. The wort turned a weird orange y opaque color after I pitched the starter. It's got some foam and it's bubbling after 48 hrs. But it's a solid...

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

Hi, Starting to set up a stir plate and just want to check if the comp. fan I picked up actually works before I go on. It's got 3 wires, green, black and yellow. The blue tooth charger cord I'm using has 2. I've tried different combos with no luck. The fan label says dc12v but the charger cord...

    Help me pick a smoker!

That digital control makes all the difference! I have the cheaper model and it's very hard to control the temps. Not bad for meat but it gets way too hot for fish. If you turn the heat down it's not hot enough to generate smoke. Kinda sucks.

    15-gallon brew kettle advice

I picked up the same 15 gal. 2 weld scratch/dent around Christmas and it's great. Thick gauge, heavy bottom. dents dont detract at all. Had them include the therm. and ball valve for another $30. Shipping was reasonable too. Made a BIAB SMASH and it worked perfect. DO IT you wont regret. :mug:

Too hot a mash then BOTTLE BOMBS

Chilled them all down, had eye protection of course, and threw a party....outside! All gone! Thanks for the help guys. I think improper mixing was the culprit. Another lesson learned.

Too hot a mash then BOTTLE BOMBS

Thanks guys, The ferment temp was around 73 and I dissolved the sugar in some boiled water cooled and mixed it well. I'm in S.Florida, nice and warm. I removed the bottles to my shed where maybe the warmer temps will speed up the process and if they're gonna go, let em go. The ones that don't...

Too hot a mash then BOTTLE BOMBS

Thanks, so then it might be too much priming or not enough time in the fermenter I guess. What about the F.G. being so high?

Too hot a mash then BOTTLE BOMBS

I'm a new brewer, about 10 batches, last 3 have been BIAB. I did a Kama Citra and got the mash too hot-160 and ended up with unfermentable sugars. O.G .045 and F.G. .020. Let it sit for almost 4 weeks in the fermenter. The final week saw no change in the gravity so I bottled. 5 oz. of corn sugar...

Determing mash temp if none is given?

I mashed at 160, I'm new at it, and now the gravity wont go below 1.020. O.G. was 1.045 It's a Kama Citra that I Biabed. Unfermentable sugers I hear. Anything I can do, or just bottle it and move on.
