Anchor Steam Clone...Glad I let it sit

Don't dump those brews! So I have been brewing for about 1 1/2 years now. I started with 1 gallon extracts, progressed to 5 gallon extracts, and am now capable of 10 gallon all-grain batches. I love Anchor Steam, among other beers, and looked forward to this batch for months. I really felt...

How many gallons of homebrew in 2015?

I'll have to check my logbook when I get home so I can add all of my brews from the start of 15'. For now we can add my most recent 5.5 gallons of an Anchor Steam clone... 16,776.5 + 5.5 = 16,782

I need to name my son.. any suggestions?

I have 3 girls....always wanted a boy to be named Lyric. In retrospect it probably would have worked for a girl as well.... And +1 to the guy above me who says Finnigan...my best friend's boy is Finnigan McCarrol....

    80 Taps,my new favorite place

I worked in KY last year and spent most of my rare days off at Eight Ball Brewing in Newport. I think they had 43 taps constantly rotating. The highlight for me was 5-6 kegs of De Struise.... I really liked my visit to Sergios World Beers in Louisville as well.... I hope you easterners...

had to dump my 1st commercial beer

My thoughts are that I can PM you my address and you can ship me those and any other future beers you can't finish......takes a hell of a lot more than those reasons for me to dump....now just generally not enjoying is one thing, but I don't dump something drinkable.....blasphemy in my eyes....:D

What's your occupation: Engineer or Non-Engineer

Electrical tech with a background of startup and comissioning of combined cycle/peaker generation plants. Most recently I got off the road and took a job at the city's waste water treatment plant. Oddly enough the process is pretty similar to brewing.....

    240V panel on 12/2 240V outlet

I see what you mean...I took the 85-260v listing as a nominal voltage rating of the contacts. However, the wiring diagram 5.4 does show the controller supplied with 240v single phase(120v each phase). I personally would still want this size element on a 30 circuit....

    240V panel on 12/2 240V outlet

I am relatively new to the site and would have to do some research before I could answer on the element, but as for Blichmann - their products apear to be high quality and highly accepted, so your gonna pay for that..... You could call some of your local electrical control supply houses (I.E...

    240V panel on 12/2 240V outlet

A couple things here....some you have figured out already. 1. Your PID controller requires a neutral which is not supplied by the 12/2. 2. You show a 4500w element. This will require a 30 amp circuit at 240v, fed with all #10 wiring. Read the element nameplate, but it should draw around...

Random thoughts from the hospital waiting room

Carry a power strip with you.....I have one with 4 outlets that is pretty compact. I can take it with me to the airport.....your the hippest of the squares when you pull one of those out.....

    Favorite stout/porter kit

My only stout so far was the NB Rum Runner in 1 gallon. I really enjoyed it. But this week I'll be doing a 5 gallon batch of HBS JP's Oatmeal Stout. I'm looking forward to that....

    Brewing and your Kids

There was a time when your son would be considered an apprentice of one of the most highly regarded trades in the community....if it makes you feel any better I let my 15 year old daughter (one of the best cooks I know) judge my brews. And by that, I mean a sip to tell me what she notices. I...

What was your Gatewaybeer to craft beer?

I had been drinking different brands of BMC for years with Bud Light being in the forefront. I remember having Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Sam Adams BL, Moose Drool, Rogue Dead Guy, and others - but none of them could sway me from the affordable, thin and light, Bud Light. They were good to...

    Full boiled a partial?

Last week I brewed an NB Irish Red and the directions called for boiling up 2.5 gallons at start and adding cold water later to make up the 5 gallons. It was my first brew in a keggle, and 2.5 gallons barely covered the drain valve, so I figured why add the water later? So if I...
