    Pressure transfer/keg. Help

I do it by weight. My pin lock corney kegs can hold just a bit over 40lbs. So I first fill the destination keg with starsan solution; push it to another keg with CO2, then push from fermenter to the keg. Yes, you want the gas open on the destination keg before hooking up the liquid...

    Hoping for quick answer!

I vote you go ahead and rack to secondary, (and set up a blowoff tube if you can.) I doubt it will do much harm, and since you started mashing already, might as well. That's what I'd do in your shoes at least.

Liquid Yeast Stored at 55 degrees?

That should be fine. It's not that warm, and only a week; just use it how you normally would, I'd say. If you do a starter, maybe start a day earlier than you otherwise would, or make it maybe 10 % bigger than you normally would, but I'd say even those steps are unnecessary.

    All-grain Brewing Alone

I pretty much do only 10 gallon batches, and I don't have any pumps yet; but its definitely in my plans (as in very soon) to get one. I only have 2 tiers, and rather than lift the brew kettle, I drain the mash into buckets about 4 gallons at a time and pour that into the kettle. I also...

    Mold in my keezer

I just had this happen recently, too. Managed to run out of beer, so I turned the keezer up to 70F or so for about 3 weeks (with empties stored in the keezer), and when I went to keg a couple of batches, had similar mold/mildew on kegs and in keezer. I did some cleaning of the keezer with...

Brand New - Complete Newbie Questions - Pt. 1 - Budget

List is pretty good; but I put a few comments in blue below. I have never done BIAB myself, but if I were starting out today, I probably would start that way. Then you just need one kettle (And even if you do go to a more traditional setup, it will pretty much all still be useful.) BIAB is a...

Starting a brew house at West Point; Conicals and more!!

Oh, just thinking about it a little further, just as far as club activity etc goes, you could think about yeast propagation.... stir plates, canning equipment to pre-make starter wort, flasks for starters, stuff to slant yeast (and a freezer to keep it in.) All stuff that might appeal to the...

Starting a brew house at West Point; Conicals and more!!

Just a few random questions and thoughts: 1) How frequently can the club brew, and how much time can you actually spend on a brew day? (Just assuming the cadets have extremely busy lives, and this is by far not their only commitment to clubs and activities.) You want to go all grain and I...

    $400 to start a Keezer?

Agree with most above to go with picnic taps for now. I got back into brewing a couple of years ago, bought 2 chest freezers, one for fermentation, one for keezer. I did picnic taps until a few months ago when I finally got around to building my colllar. (In my case, it was less about budget...

What got you into the hobby?

When my dad retired, and while I was in college (early 1990s), he and some friends decided to try brewing beer. He saw a help wanted sign at the small homebrew shop, told me about it as I needed a part time job. So I did a couple of brews at work between packaging up orders just so I would...

    Upgrading the brew shed - adding 240v - go 30amps or 50amps?

I'd say the answer is "hard" to achieve economically. In general, you can either be grid-tied or off grid; and again in general, if the grid is already connected to your property, grid tied will make the most sense. In a grid tied situation, your solar system is generally just generating a...

    Low Cost Brew Stand?

TL/DR Version: It works pretty good at a darned good price. Longer version: I use one of those and it works quite well for 10 gallon batches. I do HLT on top, my picnic cooler mash tun sits on 2 cinder blocks to the side (until I build a small table for it out of wood). I heat strike water in...

    Scrub Master 3000 Version 2.0

I'm going to make one of these.... got my pump today (the one in the original post) I also hope to adapt it to be a recirculation pump for my wort chiller; we'll see how that works out. (Thanks to recent poster who mentioned using 3/4 inch PVC; I'm sure I'll go that way, but I'm also sure it...

    CO2 Tanks

I'm in Austin as well. After more or less 18 years just got back into home brewing, been lurking here for months, but finally see a question where I might be able to help: I got all my kegging stuff from kegconnection.com. I bought the tank from them, (10 lb not 20) but in researching...
