Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

My first batch is definitely a huge success thanks to this thread! On the 22nd of August I started my first batch, which I fermented for 3 weeks and then bottled, pasteurized and cold crashed. I have to admit that when I tried it that first day the alcohol taste was a bit harsh, but we're now...

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

Last Saturday I started my first trial after I obtained both Vietnamese and Chinese yeast balls. I stove boiled 2 lbs of Thai Jasmine 1:1 after rinsing and soaking for 2 hours. To cool the rice, I spread it out on a frozen cookie sheet, which went back in the freezer for about 45 minutes...

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

Hi all, I've only made it to page 350 and I intend to read all the way to the end, but I just wondered if these are okay. So far I haven't seen this brand in any of the first 350 pages:

How to add permanent volume markings to a kettle (illustrated)

Here's mine, but with 2 questions: How do you take pictures without so much glare? How do you get the etching to be so uniformly white? I've used the vinegar/salt solution and while I initially used a 9V battery, I switched over to a DC 12V/1A adapter.

Prototype Previews: Hopback and Heat Stick

For the heatstick cabling, could I use SJEOOW 12/3 cable? I've looked locally, called electrical stores and looked online, but every single SJOOW cable came back as being rated for 90C. Edit: Okay, got my answer, SJEOOW will work too! Thanks again to Bobby for the great product!

As frazier stated, I've been splitting yeast in 2 for 2 1-gallon batches per brew day. :)

How close is your "local" home brew shop?

That would be sooooo bad. It's bad enough they're only 5 minutes away by car. I went there 3 times last Sunday. To be fair, the 3rd time was to get bottles for my wife as she was making shrubs. :D

    120V electric heating element

Wow, thanks for the heads up there spkguitar! Minbari, do you use 120V or 220V for your heating element? currently the only 220V I have in the kitchen is behind the stove, and that would be somewhat of a nuisance to pull out each time. Currently I'm also not sure of the available amperage on...

    120V electric heating element

Thanks, what about this combination then: Brewer's Edge Mash Heat Control and this heating element: Submersible Heating Element. The site claims it will boil 5 gallons in about 55 minutes.

    120V electric heating element

Hey guys, I'm buying all the stuff I need to make 5 gallon batches (currently experimenting with 1 gallons) and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this element: 120V-Electric-Brew-Heater I've looked at all these DIY threads and sites in regards to installing heating elements...

Hi from a BE in MI

Good idea. I'm going to have to check that out! Yesterday I made 2 gal of a Jalapeno Saison. We also finished the last of our Brooklyn Brewing Brown Ale I made previously (the downside of doing 1 gal batches of course). My interest mainly lies with (surprise, surprise) Belgian strong ales such...

Hi from a BE in MI

Well, technically I'm from Belgium, but my wife's a Michigander and we live in Macomb Township.

Hi from a BE in MI

Hi all! I've been mostly lurking on the forum now, looking for advice on equipment and brewing in general. My wife and I only started about a month or so ago with one of the Brooklyn 1 gallon kits. I've always been interested in brewing but never really made the leap until my wife bought...
