    Brewing while drinking beer.....

I generally wait until I have mashed in. Not due to any real rule or anything, I just usually start around 10 or 11 am, and am too busy setting up everything, measuring, and staging ingredients and gear so I can relax and enjoy the rest of the brew. Brewouts are usually a little more liquid...

    How does everyone keep up?

Jumping to ten gallons helps a lot. I think it also just takes some time. The first year or so I was getting low on beer right around bottling time every time, and holidays, super bowls etc would wipe me out. Now I do 10 gallon drinkers and 7 gallon halo beer batches and always have plenty on...

anyone not record on the fly recipes that turn out great

We did a batch like that earlier this year. There was a mystery batch of grains at the LHBS and decided to give it a whirl. As luck would have it, the beer turned out great and all I know is that it was 14 pounds of grain. i did cheat and used a Belgian yeast on it which turned out to make a...

What are you doing instead of brewing this weekend?

This weekend Im going to be teaching some people how to build their own speakers. We will be designing the boxes in advance and then building the cabinets and cutting the openings. To make up for the lost brew weekend, I will be brewing a big ole stout on wednesday. :rockin:

    What's your profession?

Tech support for a DIY electronics company. I suppose after building my own speakers , working on my own cars etc, making my own beer was just going to have to happen.

    "Other" benefits to homebrewing

I love the possibilities. Beer can be anything from a after yard work refresher to a study in flavor combinations. I look at food differently, as i now think of what would pair with it, or can the spent grain or the beer can be used directly in the cooking process. I have slowly been building a...

    Infrared Temp Sensor for Wort?

i am not a fan of these. the readings i get can vary quite a bit from my immersed thermometers and steam, or other factors can effect it. this might be ok for extract brewing or general range type of thing but when temp counts i just dont really trust it.

    Second batch starting today....

I have had zero problems with just dropping in a packet of dry yeast. i guess a lot depends on the source. i get my yeast from a local trusted source so situations mat vary but while im sure rehydrating may be a best practice, it just isnt something i worry about. as long as you are keeping the...

    Deciding On Your Next Homebrew

I have been brewing a lot of blonde ales doing a hop study. then mix in a different specialty every other batch. the blondes are all about learning hops flavors and effects while keeping a high volume of easy to drink session beers on hand. Then every other batch I try something different. That...
