Checking a corney on an airplane?

This would be an interesting question, call the airline and then post their response. I think others may be tempted to try this. I'm not sure how some cop may react if he sees you carrying it into the terminal though...

Don't like my latest batch, now what?

I've had a few batches that I really didn't care for the taste. I mixed it with other beers with stronger flavors and it went down pretty well.

    Boiled Grains Too Long???

Personally, I don't throw anything away until after it has aged for a year to make sure it is truly bad. Revvy gave great advice in his post, after all, you may find that you made a better beer than you had intended. Experimentation is the essence of this hobby, so be sure to let us know how...

How much did you pay for your turkey fryer?

I don't remember how much I paid, but I bought the square on at Walmart a couple of years back. It's a little more stable than the round one I had before that. I use it to heat my 15 gallon boil kettle with no problems.

Looking for and outdoor brewing setup

My burner has the black box on the front with the 20 minute timer. I put a pair of vice grips on the timer knob when I'm boiling and it doesn't time out. It makes it a lot easier than remembering to turn the knob every little while.

How long is too long in primary?

I have beers that I brew in October every year, I leave them on the yeast until April. I keg them up and they are delicious for the summer. I don't worry about how long a beer sits on the yeast. In my experience, they just get better over time.

    Man, Danstar Nottingham is FAST!!!

I used to just pitch my notty directly until a while back when I ended up with 10 packets of bad yeast from the bad batch that was out. I began starting my yeast just to make sure it was good before I pitched it. Now, I always keep some wort around and I just start it the night before and then...

    Pumpkin = PITA

I put 2 large cans of pumpkin in my MLT once, and I will never do that again. It took me about 2 hours to get about 7 gallons collected. Since then, I just don't mash out, I put the pumpkin in my collection pot and drain my wort on top of it. It gets some conversion and I don't have as big of...

    Lagering in a garage?

I lager all winter long in my garage, it works perfectly. When it warms up, I keg it all up and keep it cold for those long summer days of beer drinking.

    just racked my first cider

I use an auto-siphon to transfer my brews. I'm afraid that if I sucked some good brew or cider down that hose, I might not stop until I slosh when I walk...:)

    Apfelwein Recipes

Here's mine: 5 gal apple juice from Sams club. No preservatives, only ascorbic acid. Costs about $12. 1 lb of dark brown sugar. Lalvin EC 1118 yeast. Let if ferment and clear for about a month and it's ready to drink. I keep it very plain at this stage and then jazz it up in the glass.

I'm in a little to deep

Cider is really hard to mess up. If it tastes good then you have done well. Like the others said, just let it clear and enjoy it. You have about a million serving options with cider, so don't be deterred. You can always flavor it up to cover up a lack of flavor or even an objectionable...

Does clearing the cider really matter that much?

I leave mine in the fermenter for about a month until it clears and then rack to a keg. I don't bother with secondary for cider.

Oops I boiled the specialty Grains

Never throw beer away just because you made a "mistake". Be sure to write down in your brewing notes that you boiled your grains and how long they boiled. There is nothing worse than creating the best beer of your life and not knowing what you did and not being able to recreate it.

Fresh wort on a yeast cake

I reuse my yeast cake quite often and have been very pleased with the results. Make sure you rig up a blow-off hose, the fermentation will go really FAST. All those yeasties with a batch of fresh wort can get a bit explosive in just a few hours.

Cheap Apfelwein for All. Preservative free juice.

I found apple juice on sale at Walmart for 1.98 per 3qt bottle this weekend. I bought six bottles and a pound of dark brown sugar for .82. So for around $13 I have 4.5 gallons bubbling happily away in my living room even as we speak. I guess I should add in the .87 for the Lalvin EC 1118...

How much does it cost to make homebrew?

Let me put this in a little different light. I have about $1000 worth of equipment. Per batch, on average, ingredient cost is roughly $25. Propane/gas cost is about $8 per batch. Electricity to keep my brew cold is probably around $3 per month. Now, that said, let's look at some other...
