    Wyeast

I slapped my pack last Thursday with hopes to brew this past weekend, ran out of time. My pack inflated, but I ran out of time and couldn't brew...is the yeast still salvagable?

    First BIAB results

My first all grain/BIAB just hit 4 weeks old in the bottle, and I opened one for the first time last night. Flavor was great, but it seemed to be lacking some. It was the NB Cascadian Dark Ale BIAB recipe kit. Its almost as if some of the good flavors got left behind, so Im assuming this could...

    yeast issue

I brewed my first all grain yesterday and pitched wyeast 1056 once my wort got to 65. My ferm chamber is set at 65. It's been coming up to 24 hours since I pitched and I'm seeing zero activity. All of the yeast has settled on the bottom. How long should I wait before re-pitching? is this normal...

    First BIAB

Just turned the flame on to start heating up my water. This is my first step into the wonderful world of all grain so I figured I'd share. I'm brewing the NB Jake's CDA recipe. No issues so far, I will keep you updated(for all of those interested) on how it goes. To infinity and beyond.

    Better bottle 3 gal

Now that we're all here. I purchased a 3 gal better bottle not realizing it was ported for a spigot. My question is can I 'plug' the hole instead of spending $30 more dollars on their spigot? I purchased a rubber stopper that is the correct size, and I also have an old(very clean of course)...

    racking strike water

Alright, so making the movie to all grain. I don't have the funds to invest in a pot with a ball valve, so my question is this: How do I rack my strike water into the mash tun? I'm going to assume that the 170deg water wouldn't be too kind to a plastic racking cane.

    tang taste

I've done a few extract kits, the first couple I know I fermented entirely too warm. The last few, however, I've used my new totally awesome fermentation chamber. Which is a mini fridge with a temp control. It seems that no matter what I do, I always end up with this strange tangy flavor in all...

    Tasting the bottle

This may be a ridiculous question, and it may be in the wrong section completely..but; When drinking a beer from a bottle, do you ever taste the bottle? By that I mean the 'glass bottle' taste, if that helps describe the taste at all. Is this due to the beer being 'stale'?

One small step for man, one giant leap for home brewer

Alright, so I've decided I am ready to make the leap into All Grain. I've brewed a few extract batches with success, but I'm ready to dive into the 'custom' side of recipes. I plan on doing 5 gallon batches(due to space). My main question is: What are the absolute essentials to get started. I...

    ferment question

I brewed a 1 gallon batch of caribou slobber last night, pitched yeast around 7:30, by 10 i already had blowoff/airlock activity. This morning it was very vigorous, lots of activity and tonight it seems to have calmed down a good bit, slow bubbles, and a thick layer of trubb at the bottom. My...

Splitting a batch and strange smells

So I made a 2.5 gallon batch recently and after 2 weeks in the primary and doing my hydrometer tests I transferred my brew into two 1 gallon glass jugs and let them sit for 2 more weeks. I left one in the fermentation chamber at about 68 degF and put the other one in a cabinet with an ambient...

    airlock/blowoff question

I have recently converted a mini fridge into a fermentation chamber, and with some 'slight' modifications I have the space for a 6.5gal bucket. I run into an issue with the airlock, I dont quite have the headspace for an airlock, but I dont see an issue with space if I ran a blowoff...My...

    Caribou Slobber

I've done my share of searching and reading about this kit. I wanted to see what(if any) changes anyone made, not necessarily to the recipe but to the process. Mainly temp, I haven't seen too much discussion on ferment temps for this one, but I've seen great reviews on the finished product so I...
