Bottle For Sale - Portland, MI

Moving and lessening my supply of brown bottles. All are rinsed and dry, but have been sitting for awhile. I have almost 20 cases. $25 takes them all. Bring your own boxes or bags to take them home. (I'm moving and need the boxes). Pick up in Portland Michigan.

Adding Yeast Before Bottling a Sour

I plan to bottle a Flanders Red I made in February of 2009. I'm going to lightly carb it (2-2.2 volumes or 3.5oz dextrose). Given it's age, do I need to add yeast when I bottle or do you think it will natural carb with what's left in it? Is there a way to test for this before bottling? Thanks.

Which bottles to use when bottling a sour?

I have 10 gallons of sour that I need to bottle. One is a Flemish Red and the other is a bastard Oude Bruin. Can I bottle these in regular 12 oz. amber bottles after adding priming sugar? Do I need to add yeast at bottling as well? Thanks for your help. Eric

    Bayou Classic SP-10

Does anyone have a Bayou Classic SP-10? I just got one for my birthday today, and the little bag that holds the parts to put it together was broken and parts were missing that are needed to put it together. The parts I'm missing are for the adjustable air intake where the hose from the tank...

    Brooklyn Sorachi Ace IBUs?

Does anyone know how many IBUs are in Brooklyn Brewmaster Reserve Beer Sorachi Ace? Their website says it has an OG of 14 Plato, which is 1.057 and a final ABV of 6.5%, but it doesn't list the IBUs. Does anyone know, or could you help me figure out about how many IBUs this type of beer should...

WTB - 15.5 g. keg for kettle (MI or Northern IN)

I would like to purchase a 15.5 gallon keg that I can use as a kettle. Does anyone in Michigan have one they'd be willing to part with? Doesn't have to be cut, I can do that. Thanks.

How many volumes can a standard bottle handle?

I plan to bottle a Berlinner Weisse tonight and I want to use standard 12 oz amber bottles. However, Berlinner's are usually carbed to 3.5 or 4 volumes. That's 7 oz. of corn sugar for a 5 gallon batch. Can a standard 12 oz. bottle handle that much pressure or will I have bombs? Has...

    Fixing a Berlinner Weisse

I attempted to make my first Berlinner Weisse back in October. I pitched the German Ale Blend and the Lacto at the same time and I'm regretting this decision. I just tasted it from the fermenter the other day and there is zero sourness to it. I wish I would have pitched the lacto first and...

How long to store a yeast starter

I want to make a yeast starter from yeast I've saved in some bottle conditioned beers. Can I make a starter and then just put the slurry in the fridge for use later? How long could I keep it in there? Liquid yeast bought from the store lasts awhile in the fridge so I'm thinking I can do the...

    Filling 12oz. Bottles from Tap

Just curious: Can you fill 12 oz. bottles directly from a tap (like at a bar) and cap immediately? How long would they last like that? Is it the same as filling up a growler and capping? Thanks.

Ah Nuts! (using nuts in brewing)

So I've been trying to think of how to get the most flavor from using nuts in a beer. Here are the various methods I've come up with. Let me know your thoughts on them (or other methods) and which you think would yield the nuttiest flavor (we're dealing with roasted nuts here, so assume that's...

    Home Brewing Demonstration

I've been asked to do a home brewing demonstration at my town's Oktoberfest celebration and I was wondering if anyone else has done one and if there are any legal issues with it. Technically it's not really beer until it ferments but you're not allowed to buy homebrew supplies until you're 21...

Should it stay or should it go

My Flanders Red has been in the fermenter for about 6 months now (see this post for my recipe and other details). It's sitting in a five gallon secondary right now without much head space (I didn't really think ahead when racking), and a pellicile hasn't taken shape. There's evidence on the...

    No Sparge Calculation Trouble

So I'm attempting to do a few small 2-gallon all-grain batches. I've been doing PM 5 gallon batches for awhile now, but I don't have the equipment to go all-grain with high volume batches, so I want to do smaller AG batches on my stove top. To do so, I want to use the No Sparge method. I have...

Bell's Brewery has Empty Bottles for Sale

I was at Bell's last night (actually a whole day of microbrews; Dark Horse to Arcadia to Bell's to Old Peninsula), and stopped in their store. They have home brew supplies including grain (I saw a 50 lb. bag of grain for $47). Anyway, I'm running out of empty bottle at home so I checked out...

Hops in Michigan not coming up yet?

I have three hop plants in the backyard planted directly in the ground. I haven't seen anything pushing up at all. This will be their second year in the ground so I expected them to start shooting up vigorously since they more established now. Should I dig down and check out the roots and see...

    Espresso Stout, which BJCP Style?

I brewed an espresso stout (coffee stout) that I want to enter in a homebrew competition. The trouble is, they aren't judging based on how good the beer is, necessarily, they're judging on how well it fits the profile of the BJCP Style Guidelines for that style of beer. I used coffee in the...

    Two New Labels

Here are two labels I put together. I really like the one for the ESB. The Patriot's Ale is a Sam Adams Clone so I was trying to keep the founding fathers theme. It's not my favorite but it'll work.

    Helping Identifying Recipe/Beer Style

So I had some left over ingredients and decided to put a brew together. I'm not 100% what style category it fits in, if any at all. Here's what I did: 3# Marris Otter .25# Chocolate .25# Crystal 120 .5# Crystal 60 .25# Aromatic .5# Crystal 20 .25# Caramunich 4.25# Amber LME (added...
