    WYeast 1187 Ringwood Ale

Did a stout, OG 1.049, been in primary for 14 days, oxygenated with pure oxygen. Had several days (2 or 3) a bit to cold 60 or so when I was gone for the weekend. The rest of the time it has been at 68-72. Checked the gravity today and it was 1.018 which is 60% attenuation should be 68-72%...

    Explosive pours

OK, I have a chest freezer and I keep it at 40 to 42 and 11-13 psi. I had 6' lines and I thought that was the problem. I got some new 12' lines, no good. The problem is that when I don't have a beer for a while (1-2 days) I get a explosive pour (95% head). I'm not the noob that has not read...

    Stainless shanks, worth it?

Took a few of my Perlick taps off to clean, and my shanks looked nasty, almost rusted or just discolored. I'm thinking of upgrading to all stainless shanks. The shanks I have are of unknown origin. I usually just run hot water through them after a keg and then get go back to beer when I have...

    The no airlock fermentation

OK, brewed my fair share and im my experience I have always had airlock activity for 4 -5 days. I always give mine 2 weeks in primary but i have a concern with this one. The WLP007 Dry English Ale yeast came frozen due to the temps here in freaking Alabama. So I made a starter and I for...

    Frozen White Labs Yeast

Well I get my ingredients for next weekends dry stout and my 2 vials of White Labs WLP007 yeast was frozen in transit. One was pretty solid, the second didn't look as bad. Its dead isn't it? I figure I'm going to order a few packages of S-04 and make a starter with my frozen WLP007 Wednesday...

    Lost efficiency post boil?

So I have a recipe (Haus Pale Ale) that I calculated 759 total points. I have 13.25gal to the kettle at 1046. So 46/(759/13.25) = 80.3 % Mash Eff. Much better than the 63% last time. Post boil I have 11.25gal at 1050. So 50/(759/11.25) = 74.1 % Should these efficiency #'s not...

    Expired Notty!

Brewing a 10g batch of pale ale this weekend and want to pitch half with Notty and half with Safale-05. Problem is the Notty expired 3-07. That is working on 2 years. I hear 20% of the yeast dies a year if stored at room temp. I have no idea how it was stored. The local HBS is out of Notty...

    How many gallons this year?

How many gallons have you brewed this year (2008)? 90 gallons myself in 17 different batches. Won't get any more in this year. I just recently started doing 10 gallons all grain and I'm shooting for 120 gallons in 12 batches next year. That might be conservative, but a goal none the less.

    Nottingham yeast (a bit hot)

So I brew up some of BierMuncher Centennial Blonde pitched my Nottingham yeast and about 36 hours later it is going NUTS. I check the temp and it is up to, 74 (the one in secondary next to it was 68). So I gotta get to work and I don't have time for a swamp cooler, but I do hit it with a fan...

    False Bottom deadspace

If you set your false bottom on a flat surface, at its highest point (the middle I hope) how much space is under it. Mine only has between 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch and i'm wondering if this is normal, since I'm having some issues. P.S it is a 10 gallon round cooler type false bottom.

Cooler MLT with SS false bottom PROBLEM

Had a stuck sparge with my new MLT this weekend, I will save you the details of how big a nightmare that was. My tun is a 10 gallon Gott round cooler with a SS false bottom. From the bulkhead to the FB it has some hose (it is really stiff) it is attached to the bulkhead and some plastic...

First All Grain Brew Day Nightmare

Well I had a stuck sparge (more on this later and possible soulutions I hope). So I had to scoop out grain and rinse it with my sparge water in a mesh collinder, which took forever and was a sticky mess. I place the hot grain in a 5 gal bucket lined with a plactic bag. When I took the plastic...

First All Grain tomorrow Am I missing anything?

OK doing BierMuncher (I think it was his) Centennial Blonde recipe tomorrow. Here is my Plan. I'm pretty sure I got a good plan and have it printed out so I don't miss anything. Here are my few questions. - I have a converted keg , a smaller aluminium pot, and a 10gal cooler tun. I...

I'm doing BM's Centennial Blonde soon and I came up with this tap handle label. I feel like maybe it is missing something on the bottom left, but not sure.

Keg Fridge Cold in Summer Hot in Winter

Ok, I searched on this, but I couldn't find anything. Here are the details. I have a 7ish cubic foot freezer with a Johnson temp controller set at 40. The probe is mounted on the wood that is a part of the collar. The collar is not insulated other than the wood itself. This summer when...
