1st time brewer ... Worried about fermentation temps in hot climate?

I have had great success with my swamp cooler. It is a plastic bin with a few inches of water it in. Towel wrapped around the fermenter and sitting in the water. I rotate in frozen milk jugs. I put mine in a central closet. The temp in the house is 74 in the summer and I could easily get 66-68...

    Corny keg question

Slightly confused by the question. This may be due to my inexperience with the small CO2 dispenser you are using. But, in a normal kegerator you have a large CO2 tank and a regulator. You set your regulator to your desired PSI. As you dispense beer the regulator keeps your head space at your...

Just a new guy making beer.

What was your hydrometer reading after fermenting? It looks like your hydrometer is floating really high to be a final gravity reading. This would support the sweat taste. Did you have air lock activity during fermentation? And what was your original and final gravity?

    Nice, those look pretty handy.

    Kegerator Question(s)!

The most expensive part of the setup will be the commercial tap. Air and liquid lines are not pricey. I have a commercial tap and lines and a set of pin lock connections and lines. Each setup has their own liquid and gas lines. You could use the same liquid and gas lines if you wanted. But...

So I have dry clean bottles, now what?

You need to sanitize before filling. You could use a no rinse like star san or you could use your dish washer as an autoclave of sorts.

    Temp of fermenting beer question?

wshearer9, I did the exact same thing with my first brew. I didn't monitor fermentation temps for the first two days, ambient was around 72*. Added a swamp cooler made from a plastic tub, towel, and frozen milk jugs. I threw on a stick on thermometer and after fermentation is completed the temp...

    First brew!

UPDATE: I took your advice and added a swamp cooler with a towel and ice packs. I fermented for 2 days before adding the cooler. At first I was just using ice packs in the water and then went to frozen milk jugs. The first day in the swamp cooler a stick on thermometer read 72 degrees. I notice...

    First brew!

I am not. The location of the fermentation bucket is in an interior closet and the temp probably only swings a few degrees.

    First brew!

Fine fine :). I will report back with gravity readings before I keg it and make sure they stabilize.

    First brew!

I built a kegerator last year and have had some local breweries on tap. I always wanted to brew my own and finally got everything I needed. Went with the AIH Bell's Oberon extract clone. Everything went smoothly. It took me about 3 hours from start to finished and cleaned up. Most time was...

    Kegerator balance question.

Here is a pic of my 2nd beer out of it. I didn't have any problems! Well, I did forget to open the shut off on my regulator at first. But after that everything seems good. Pours kind of slow, but I think it is okay. Passes the flash light test. I am right around 13-14psi...

    Kegerator balance question.

Right, but I would like to keep the 2.75 by volume. It is my understanding that CO2 will leave the beer to fill the head space, thus making your beer flat. So I need to keep the proper CO2 levels and dispense the beer. Correct anything I have wrong please.

    Kegerator balance question.

I used the website listed in my OP. L = (P -(H x .5) – 1 ) / R Where: L = length of beer line in feet P = pressure set of regulator H = total height from center of keg to faucet in feet R = resistance of the line from the following table 1 = residual pressure remaining at faucet (this...

    Kegerator balance question.

Is there a reason I read a lot of real world experience that says longer hose and the calculator says a shorter hose?

    Kegerator balance question.

I built my own kegerator but I am not yet home brewing, I do plan on it soon. Here is a pic! https://www.dropbox.com/s/44gwzkumuo7x9jo/emp.jpg Now on to my question. I am new but I have been trying to read as much as possible. I am getting a keg of Killian's this weekend. I know that it needs...
