    My beers are completely undrinkable!

Freeze a few water bottles to drop into the swamp cooler every few hours as well. This helped me get fermentation room temps down from 73 to 64.

    Priming sugar calculation

Why do they list Corn Sugar and Dextrose separately/

Seriously, why isn't this crap sinking already!?

Have you tried swirling the carboy gently once a day, trying to get them to settle? Other than that, try a hop bag over the end of siphon/racking cane?

    Over carbonated?

So I opened two that had been in my fridge for a few days today. Tomorrow is the 3 week mark so will put a few more in tomorrow. But of the 2 I opened today, both have been in fridge for the same amount of time, 4-5 days. One gushed and I lost half the beer down the sink, was overcarbonated like...

    First time using Liquid Yeast

I should have used a blow off tube instead of the aluminum foil! Got home and the gallon jug had blown the foil off it's top. Krausen spilled down the sides. Hoping it didn't get infected...

    First time using Liquid Yeast

So starter's got a nice layer of foam on the top and yeast on the bottom today, fizzed up a bunch when I shook it this morning. I had some Wyeast Nutrients laying around so threw a bit in there when it cooled yesterday. I have another vial of the WLP001 I was saving for the next brew day, but I...

    First time using Liquid Yeast

Is plastic gallon jugs okay for this? Largest mason jar only fits about .75L

    First time using Liquid Yeast

The DME I use for the starter. Should it be additional DME? Or should it come out of the DME I use in the recipe, and if so - the late addition or the part that is boiled for the entire time?

    First time using Liquid Yeast

Okay, it just arrived today so it hasn't really been "cold" I put it in the fridge upon arrival but it was only in there maybe 30 mins. Warming up now and I'll make the starter ASAP. Thanks! edit:according to use by date, the yeast is about 3.5 weeks old, would have been bottled on the 3rd...

    First time using Liquid Yeast

So, brewday is Sunday. Gunning for a IIPA using WLP001. Was planning on making a starter as recommended. How to brew says to take it out of fridge at least 2 days prior. The instructions on the yeast say to remove it from fridge 3-6 hours prior to use. Which is right? If I warm it to...

    Over carbonated?

I had the same issue with my Caribou Slobber, but same as you, only waited 2 weeks in bottles. Theres 2 more in my fridge I'm letting sit for a few days there, but the rest are still in the closet conditioning at ~65F for another week or two.

3 brews under my belt, first attempt at creating my own recipe

Hmm, maybe brewtarget's calculations are off? That gives me a FG of 1.023 in Brewtarget. ABV is at 8.9 though.

3 brews under my belt, first attempt at creating my own recipe

I've been playing around with the grain/extract bill to try to get the FG down a bit, to at least 1.016. Any way I can get this down there the ABV drops down a little bit too low for my liking. I'm using BrewTarget not Beersmith, not sure if that changes anything. Any suggestions on the...

3 brews under my belt, first attempt at creating my own recipe

Thanks everybody for the help so far! I'm going to mull this over and will post an updated recipe tomorrow! Yeah, I have that saved. That's actually where I got the idea to add Centennial from when I thought I wouldn't have enough to do an all-Mosaic brew.

3 brews under my belt, first attempt at creating my own recipe

Honestly this is what I was hoping to do, but at this point I can only get my hands on 4 oz of Mosaic. What I'm aiming for is something with the up-front kick like a Stone IPA with a fruity base from the Mosaic. The IPA kit I brewed from my LHBS was pretty heavy on the Citra and was not as...

3 brews under my belt, first attempt at creating my own recipe

Thanks! Was definitely planning on the starter. Will think about the nutrients - what do they really add to the brew? I haven't used any nutrients in the kits I've brewed so far. Looks like it didn't carry over from BrewTarget but the Amber DME was going to be a late addition (15 min...

3 brews under my belt, first attempt at creating my own recipe

Looking to brew up a Mosaic IIPA, this is what I've come up with but having never done this before I would love opinions! So far I've tackled Caribou Slobber from NB, and a IPA and Pale Ale from LHBS (Old West Supply in Colorado Springs). I ordered the Plinian Legacy kit from NB, but not sure...
